Position description

The success of Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty – RFE/RL – is rooted in our exceptional employees and our mission for over 60 years now. 

We are looking for an exceptional Chief Financial Officer – CFO  with at least 10 years progressive work experience in financial management to join and lead our Finance team in RFE/RL’s Washington Corporate Headquarters. Reporting to the President and CEO, the CFO serves as Treasurer of the corporation. The CFO position manages the heads of the Finance Division’s functional areas, including Budget, Comptroller/DC Finance, Compliance, Prague Finance, Procurement, and Bureau Administration. Successful candidates must be willing to obtain a security clearance and be available to travel to other RFE/RL operating locations as needed. Some USG experience and/or working in a global multinational environment are considered a plus. Additionally, some background coordinating with IT to manage and upgrade accounting systems and implementation is strongly preferred. 

As CFO, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial activities of the organization. You will work collaboratively with the heads of other RFE/RL departments to develop and implement sound financial strategies in support of the organization’s strategic priorities. You will also evaluate and advise on short- and long-range planning as well as new strategic directives, while overseeing cash flow and management, financial assets, and retirement investments. 

The CFO is charged with ensuring the integrity of RFE/RL's financial accounting and reporting, and as such your performance should demonstrate strategic vision, commitment to RFE/RL’s mission and an understanding of its complex operations across the company’s coverage region. You will have excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, communication, organizational, analytical and computational skills, as well as the ability to exercise professional discretion and discernment, independent judgment, and business acumen. Without exception, the CFO position requires a proven track record of trustworthiness, strong leadership, personal accountability, and impeccable ethics, not to mention excellent people and communication skills with the ability to successfully interact with a range of individuals from board members to staff personnel.
