The Vice President, Global Operations is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing finance and operations activities in the organization, ensuring development and implementation of forward-looking systems and practices. The VP, Global Operations will lead a team of finance, operations, and human resource professionals to ensure that we have an engaged and highly performing staff, compliant and efficient global operations, and the highest standards of financial management to meet current and future needs of the organization. The VP, Global Operations and VP, Global Programs work closely together to ensure alignment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include ensuring strong management and optimal performance in all areas of finance and operations including but not limited to financial management and strategy, grants and contracts compliance, risk management, human resources, safety and security, facilities management, and IT infrastructure. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.
- Develop Strategy: Lead the strategic direction of the organization’s finance, people-management, and operations functions. Lead – in partnership with the President and our VP, Global Programs – growth strategies for the organization. Utilize Business Intelligence to analyze data to contribute to strategic global initiatives and organization-wide planning and decision making in support of VillageReach’s Goals & Strategies. Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in global operations and financial management. Spearhead and/or partner with President on special projects.
- Optimize Finance: In collaboration with the Controller, lead financial and business planning, review and analyze financial reports, and advise the CEO about financial decisions. Oversee the organizational budgeting process and support the Controller to ensure high levels of compliance VillageReach accounting policies, GAAP, government accounting standards, and funder requirements. Work with the Senior Leadership Team and Program Leaders to ensure timely reviewing of financial reports on an organizational and program-by-program basis, focusing on cash flow, reforecasting, and analysis of indirect cost rate. Mentor the finance team to utilize business intelligence to monitor financial health through key performance indicators.
- Elevate Operations: In coordination with the Operations and Compliance team, review internal processes, and identify and deploy the most efficient methods of running the organization with an eye for risk-mitigation and/or informed risk acceptance. Seek continuous improvement, pushing VillageReach towards agility including identifying and implementing new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline use of resources. Develop and implement IT infrastructure support plan across all offices. Support Country Directors and the VP, Programs in monitoring operations and costs in response to fluctuating program portfolios. Supervise the daily administration of the organization's Seattle office and the operation of equipment and facilities.Support Country Directors and operations teams of other offices in strategic decision-making.
- Enable Data-Driven Decision-Making for Senior Leadership: In collaboration with their team, lead the optimization of systems and procedures to ensure that reliable finance and operations data, information, and knowledge are accessible in as close-to-real-time as possible to key decision-makers throughout the organization including Global Leadership Team and Board of Directors. Support the business development function by reviewing cliff-funding analysis, pipeline, start-up costs, and other key performance indicators. Liaise with legal and other external experts to support our internal analysis and decision-making.
- Uphold Organizational Ethics & Compliance: Carry out the duties of this position with a high degree of personal commitment to and modeling of ethical behaviors. Lead the development and implementation of policies and practices to ensure the organization adheres to VillageReach’s ethical norms and is in compliance with the legal requirements of the countries in which we work and the financial and programmatic requirements of the donors whose money we steward.
- Enable Global Human Resource Excellence: In collaboration with the Sr. Manager, Human Resources and the Senior Leadership Team, help create a culture of growth and innovation within VillageReach staff. Participate as a thought leader in developing and driving human resource policies that support our organizational value of diversity and inclusion, with a focus on equity across all global staff.
- Governance & Ambassadorship: Act as an Officer of the corporation, working with the President and the Board of Directors to ensure the Directors have the information needed to govern and manage the affairs of the organization. Manage relationships with VillageReach’s legal counsel and develop new relationships as needed. Act on behalf of the President when requested. Steward and support donor and partner relationships.
- Lead from Within: Uphold our strong internal communications principles by working with the President and Senior Leadership Team to uphold an environment of transparency and strong communication on all policies and practices in global operations and finance. Mentor and support the growth of leaders of the Finance, Operations and Human Resource teams. Act as an ambassador both within and outside of the organization for our global team and our impact.

This position directly supervises up to 4 staff, with a full team of 10-12 HQ-based staff and dotted line support of additional finance and HR staff located in country offices. The VP, Global Operations carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education & Experience:
- MBA, MPA or comparable degree with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in finance and/or operations roles with at least five years in a complex leadership and management role. Global management experience through an international NGO or multi-national business strongly preferred.
- Experience directly managing and overseeing organizational financial operations, with an understanding of how to identify financial risk, effectively manage financial professionals, and ensure high standards of financial management and compliance across the organization.
- Understanding of global business and development trends, with an ability to anticipate future consequences of those trends and build them into long-term planning.
- Experience overseeing diverse compliance requirements, including government and bi-lateral grants and contracts.
- Experience with risk management and a track recording of successfully managing risk across a complex operating environment (specific experience doing this in a global setting preferred).
- Ability to foster a creative, professional, and open management culture that empowers staff to fulfill their potential and encourages innovative thinking. Excellent capacity building, team building/management, and coordination skills and a comfort in a matrixed and global environment. An ability to delegate responsibilities effectively and coach and mentor staff.

Comfortable in a fast-paced technical environment. Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools and a track record of successful use or incorporation of such tools in daily decision-making.
- Previous experience managing IT operations at a corporate or enterprise level is desired.
- Demonstrated experience administering a global enterprise with USA Federal funding subject to 2 CFR 200.
- French or Portuguese desired, although not required.
Environment and Physical Demands
VillageReach has no private offices, employees work in a shared, open environment with task and conference rooms accessible to employees for privacy and meetings. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Due to the time zone differences between our Seattle office and our Country Offices and location of other global staff, US based staff are expected to be available for early morning meetings starting at 6am. In addition, our global HQ and Country office staff are expected to be available for late afternoon/evening meetings up to 6pm.
Role is computer based and requires sitting and/or standing at a desk, using a mouse, keyboard, and laptop and viewing screens.
