Position description

Hours per week: 24 hours (or 3 full days per week)

Salary: Paid contractor (1099-MISC tax status)

The Deputy Manager will serve as the second-in-command to the Global Education Managing Director, with the goal of succeeding the current full-time position of the Director in the summer of 2020. The Deputy will be expected to learn everything about Global Classrooms DC as thoroughly as possible, from building relationships with educators and students to supporting partnerships to successfully executing conferences, workshops and other program activities.


Global Classrooms DC (GCDC) is UNA-NCA’s flagship education program. GCDC aims to educate and introduce youth (Grades 5th-12th) in the Washington DC area to the work of the United Nations while building 21st century educational skills. This position is ideal for those interested in international relations, non-profit management, program development, and education.



Global Education

  • Support the Director to create all program communications, conference program, annual reports, newsletters, brochures, and website
  • Support the Director to design middle and high school curriculum in the GCDC Community, our year-round program, and in Model UN conferences
  • Support the Director to facilitate a professional development workshop for teachers during the Spring 2020 Model UN Conference
  • Support the Director to maintain electronic database and registration for curriculum/year-round program
  • Support the Director to train volunteers for the Spring Conference


Model UN Conferences

  • Support the Director to organize two primary conferences throughout the school year: the Fall Model UN Training Conference hosted at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Spring Model UN Conference hosted at the U.S. Department of State and PAHO
  • Support the Director to manage registrations, and to recruit, communicate, and train volunteers and chairs
  • Support the Director to organize logistical aspects of the conference, including security information, catering, printing of materials, signage, etc.
  • Support the Director to train and communicate with UNA-NCA staff for day-of procedures
  • Support the Director to update website page and maintain communication with participants


Management & Evaluation

  • Support the Director to manage and develop program budgets and requests for programmatic expenses in consultation with the Executive Director
  • Support the Director to manage GCDC Program Evaluation during the school year and the Spring Model UN Conference
  • Support the Director to manage program financial requests from the Accountant
  • Support the Director to recruit volunteers for Model UN conferences, events, and the Model UN Mentor program
  • Support the Director to supervise the GCDC Program Assistants and Youth Intern
  • Support the Director to prepare reports to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee
  • Support the Director to develop the program’s Annual Report


Program Partners & Development

  • Support the Director to coordinate with long-term program partners including the U.S. Department of State and PAHO
  • Support the Director to develop and maintain relationships with funders and program partners, including the ILO, IOM, UNEP, and more
  • Support the Director to execute commitments related to conference sponsorships
  • Support the Director to organize fundraising events and online campaigns for the Support a Delegate program

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Model UN experience
