Position description

BP Intelligence, Security & Crisis Management's (ISC) Cyber Intelligence Advisor protects BP people and assets from serious physical and financial harm by proactively driving down strategic cyber risk. The Cyber Intelligence advisor serves as BP's principal authority on the strategic cyber threat landscape, including state and non-state threats to BP, and leads ISC engagement with BP's critical stakeholders in Group leadership, business leadership, Digital Security and across functions to drive cyber resilience through intelligence-led threat assessment.

Key accountabilities:

  • Deliver intelligence-led strategic assessment of the cyber threat to BP to inform evaluation of risk assessment and cyber barriers before major incidents occur
  • Through the Cyber Baseline Threat Assessment and internal BP outreach, drive proactive response to cyber threats at the Group, Digital Security and operating business levels
  • Build cyber relationships with key US and other government agencies to develop new capabilities and obtain actionable threat intelligence
  • Serve as a principal intelligence conduit and interface with Digital Security to push security goals for all of BP
  • Provides regular, written strategic insight and briefs to Group executives and senior leaders throughout the firm. This informs understanding of critical cyber threats so BP can take preemptive measures before they affect the enterprise
  • Collaborates closely with multiple DS teams, Group Security and others to recognize cyber risk and push for action and proactive behaviors (e.g., supply chain risk process)
  • Develops the cyber BTA and links the BTA to a defined and repeatable process to increase cyber barriers. Lead adoption of cyber barrier development and model behaviors in BP operating companies and segments by developing additional metrics in the cyber barometer
  • Assesses ongoing incidents to understand adversary intentions and advise future mitigation strategy, and work with Digital Security to obtain regular awareness of live cyber incidents
  • Serves as BP’s focal point for cyber intelligence driven through human sources and leverages high level contacts to develop lasting relationships with government agencies
  • Reviews cyber exposure related to future BP commercial activity; pushing for appropriate mitigation in consultation with businesses, digital security, and physical security leads
  • Builds awareness regarding IT and PCN cyber threats throughout the enterprise

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s in international affairs or intelligence studies is preferred. 

Essential experience and job requirements:

  • Substantive intelligence experience in the public or private sectors; understanding of the intelligence cycle and its application in a commercial environment
  • Deep knowledge of international affairs and operational level experience assessing plans and intentions of, and cyber threat posed by sophisticated state and non-state actors
  • Ability to forge productive relationships and build networks at all levels, internally and externally
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to write quickly, concisely, and with impact
  • Brief effectively, with polish and poise
  • Examine issues for second and third order implications to BP
  • Work independently in a dispersed virtual team structure
  • Experience with open source intelligence tools and techniques


Desirable Criteria:

  • Formal certifications in intelligence collection, collection management, intelligence analysis, or other intelligence disciplines from a government agency
  • Foreign language, international work and travel, and advanced degrees a plus
  • This position requires a highly motivated self-starter who can work independently while also contributing to a globally dispersed team. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, deep curiosity and focused attention to detail are key attributes required for success
