EqualAI seeks a strategic and experienced Director (manager) of Programs & Policy to lead and manage our high-impact initiatives aimed at identifying and promoting responsible AI practices. This role requires experience in executing programs and policy development. The Director (manager) of Programs & Policy will play a critical role in coordinating EqualAI’s programs, shaping policy discussions, and developing partnerships with key stakeholders.
Key roles and responsibilities
Program Management and Strategic Leadership
– Plan and Oversee Program Execution: Lead the development, planning, and implementation of EqualAI’s core programs, including workshops, corporate partnership initiatives, and educational programs that advance responsible AI practices.
– Ensure Program Alignment with Strategic Goals: Align program initiatives with EqualAI’s mission and objectives, managing program timelines, deliverables, and budgets to meet organization goals.
– Optimize Program Processes and Impact: Establish and track KPIs for all programs, ensuring measurable outcomes and adapting strategies based on data, feedback, and policy developments.
Policy Analysis and Legislative Engagement
– Policy Research and Analysis: Stay current on AI policy, legislation, and emerging regulations, tracking trends to keep EqualAI’s programs at the forefront of AI governance discussions.
– Develop Policy Briefings and Recommendations: Prepare briefings and recommendations for both internal teams and external audiences, translating complex policy issues into accessible insights and action points.
– Monitor Legislative Developments: Track AI-related regulatory updates and legislative actions at federal and state levels, providing timely information to inform internal strategy and stakeholder communications.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development
– Organize and Facilitate Workshops and Events: Plan and execute events and training sessions that educate policymakers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders on to align on best practices in AI governance.
– Engage Policymakers and Represent EqualAI with Stakeholders: Participate in relevant meetings and public discussions, advocating for responsible AI practices and communicating EqualAI’s insights and initiatives.
– Foster Relationships with Key Stakeholders: Build and maintain relationships with corporate partners, government agencies, and other partners.
Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
– Evaluate and Refine Programs: Use feedback and analysis to make iterative improvements to programs, ensuring sustained impact and relevance.
– Prepare Comprehensive Reports and Presentations: Communicate program findings, policy updates, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, including board members, donors, and partners.
Resource and Budget Management
– Manage Program Budgets: Work with leadership to develop and monitor budgets, ensuring responsible use of funds and alignment with program goals.
– Support Funding Efforts: Assist with grant writing, donor communications, and fundraising strategies by providing program insights and outcomes.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, law, technology, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
– Hill experience is strongly preferred.
– Minimum of 7 years of experience in program management, ideally within a nonprofit, government, or policy-focused organization.
– Proven track record of managing complex programs, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering high-quality policy analysis.
Skills and Competencies:
– Project Management Skills: Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
– Stakeholder and Partnership Management: Skilled at building and maintaining relationships with policymakers, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders.
– Policy Expertise preferred: In-depth understanding of AI policy and regulatory frameworks, with demonstrated experience analyzing and communicating policy issues effectively.
– Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience with policy writing and public speaking.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in AI/technology policy, regulation or legal frameworks.
