The European Social Network (ESN) is the European Network for public social services, bringing together more than 170 national, regional, and local public social services administrations from 35 countries.

2) About the Role

This is a new position designed to oversee thematic projects and facilitate membership development, actively engaging members in various projects. The officer will work under the direct supervision of the Projects Coordinator and the CEO.

3) Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement detailed project content;
  • Efficiently manage resources and forecast requirements to achieve project objectives;
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and work plans based on scope of work and resource needs;
  • Oversee contracts with suppliers for project-related activities within your purview;
  • Monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments as required;
  • Assess project performance to identify areas for enhancement;
  • Plan and coordinate content for project deliverables, including reports planning and implementation, and organising meetings, national and European seminars, and conferences;
  • Produce policy documents to communicate projects progress and outcomes;
  • Prepare and adapt documentation for different stakeholders at local, national, and European levels;
  • Represent ESN at national and European events as a speaker to disseminate projects progress and outcomes.

4) Membership-related tasks

  • Implement ESN’s membership strategy, including members enrolment, retention, and engagement;
  • Identify and propose new opportunities for membership development, reporting findings to the CEO and the ESN team;
  • Establish and coordinate effective methods for mapping members’ expertise & knowledge; facilitating regular contact with them and fostering their involvement in ESN’s projects and activities;
  • Evaluate, suggest, and coordinate members’ participation in ESN’s projects and activities;
  • Maintain and update the CRM system as necessary;
  • Organise activities and events for or with members and collaborate with colleagues to coordinate self-funded events such as the ESSC or the ESSA. This includes supporting members’ participation, negotiating contracts, defining and monitoring budgets, ensuring payments and reimbursements, and maintaining accurate records;
  • Support improvement and implementation of internal processes related to data recording, and reporting;
  • Potential involvement in managing or mentoring an intern;
  • Promote ESN’s activities and achievements across all external facing opportunities.

5) Qualifications and experience

  • University degree in public or social policy, business studies, or a related field;
  • 3+ years of demonstrable experience in project implementation;
  • Experience working with a membership organisation;
  • Proven ability to complete projects within specified scope, budget, and timeline;
  • Knowledge/experience of project management methodologies and best practices;
  • Event management experience;
  • Knowledge of or sensitivity towards care and social services, social work;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and resourcefulness;
  • Experience working with customer relations management systems (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot);
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial, and open-minded approach to membership development and engagement;
  • Ability to adapt to different work approaches, settings, and languages;
  • Cultural and political sensitivity in relations with internal colleagues, national members, and partners;
  • Near-native proficiency in written and oral English, plus fluency in at least one other European language;
  • Desirable: Business development experience.

6) Conditions

  • Full-time position (38h/week), with a permanent contract;
  • Remuneration according to experience and comparable to similar positions in Brussels;
