About the role
As Grants Manager, you’ll take the lead in managing Climate Group’s grants portfolio, ensuring compliance with funder and regulatory requirements while supporting the organisation’s global mission. Working at the intersection of fundraising, legal, program, and finance teams, you’ll oversee the entire grant lifecycle—from negotiating agreements and conducting due diligence to managing risks and ensuring timely, high-quality reporting.
In this role, you’ll build strong relationships with funders and project partners, driving effective collaboration and impact. You’ll also lead and mentor the Grants Management and Compliance Officer, fostering a culture of innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
Managing Agreements
• Oversee grant management across our funding portfolio, ensuring compliance with funder, organisational, and regulatory requirements throughout the grant lifecycle.
• Lead the subgranting process, including drafting, negotiating, and executing subgrant Agreements with partners, ensuring alignment with funder terms. Monitor subgrant agreements throughout their lifecycle, ensuring amendments are reflected and relevant teams are informed.
• Review and negotiate funder agreements to ensure alignment with Climate Group’s interests and compliance needs and advise Finance and Fundraising teams on the appropriate funding modalities for project funding.
• Coordinate project change requests, ensuring compliance with internal processes and securing formal signoffs from external stakeholders in line with funder terms.
• Work across teams to ensure agreements meet audit requirements and reflect changes in local laws and funder terms.
• Manage and support the professional development of the Grants Management and Compliance Officer, ensuring effective communication of funder requirements and smooth project execution.
• Collaborate with the in-house legal team to review and negotiate service agreements.
Due Diligence and Compliance
• Lead and manage the grants and compliance processes across the organisation, ensuring consistent understanding and compliance. Design and deliver workshops to update staff on key processes.
• Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and Governance teams to review and improve internal controls, policies, and processes related to grants and compliance.
• Conduct thorough due diligence on project partners per Climate Group’s Due Diligence Policy, defining when and at what level due diligence is required.
• Maintain and update a library of standard responses for funder due diligence, working with Operations teams to ensure key documents (finance, policies, registration) are current.
• Conduct gap analyses between funder requirements and internal policies, reviewing contractual terms from funders (Foundations, Governments, Corporates).
• Proactively identify and manage risks related to funding and project delivery, providing solutions as needed.
• Collaborate with Finance, Governance, and Legal teams to continually improve contracting checklists, processes, and policies to strengthen grant and partner compliance.
Reporting
• Maintain internal trackers and records across platforms (Salesforce), analysing trends within Climate Group’s funding portfolio.
• Coordinate funder reporting, ensuring alignment with funder requirements and internal processes. Communicate reporting needs to relevant teams and ensure reports are stored in Salesforce for audit review.
• Serve as the primary contact for funders on reporting issues, providing solutions and updates as needed.
• Manage contributions from program and finance teams to ensure accurate, compelling content for funder reports.
• Collaborate with program teams to review and process project partner reports, ensuring compliance and internal approval.
