Position description
The Department of History, Political Science and Philosophy seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Political Science and should have focus on Comparative Politics with an emphasis on European politics or Central/South American politics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include teaching four 3 credit-hour undergraduate courses per semester. This will include three introductory American Government courses and one upper-division undergraduate course in an area of specialization. In time, the candidate will also teach an introductory course in Texas Government. In addition, responsibilities will include an active program of research and publication, commitment to mentoring undergraduate students, and Departmental/University-level service, including committee work. Active and demonstrable participation in the University's recruiting and retention functions will be a key responsibility.
- Teach 8 undergraduate courses per year (4 per semester), typically including three introductory courses in American and/or Texas Government, and an upper-division undergraduate course in the areas of one's professional specialization
- Develop and maintain a program of focused research and publishing, including publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences
- Participate in Departmental and University student recruitment and retention
- Participate in committee work, both inside and outside the Department, as required
- Obtain external funding to support research and outreach fields (where appropriate to that candidates' area of expertise)
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD from an accredited institution or university in Political Science or a closely related discipline, and demonstrable expertise within the field(s).
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of or potential for excellence in research and service; undergraduate teaching; interdisciplinary collaboration; and community outreach.
- Demonstrated experience reflecting passion for teaching, particularly students at the undergraduate level.
- Evidence of or potential for strong student engagement activities aimed at recruitment and retention
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching formats.
