The College of Idaho invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Political Economy to start in the fall of 2025. We seek candidates who share the College’s commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive academic community.
The position will support the Department’s two major programs in Political Economy and International Affairs. Depending on expertise, the successful candidate will contribute to lower- and upper-division courses in political economy, history of economic thought, US political economy, comparative public policy, international development, or international political economy. The teaching load is 3-3 with an additional short January-term topics course based on the candidate’s expertise. The position includes institutional support for professional development and conference travel.
The Department approaches political economy in a broad theoretical manner that emphasizes the intricate relationship between economics and politics and rejects the push for narrow specialization and formal modeling. We encourage interdisciplinary approaches that transcend mainstream disciplinary boundaries and emphasize analytical methods employing real-world data. Our commitment to epistemological pluralism opens our students to a variety of approaches such as comparative political economy, critical policy studies, critical theory, historical institutionalism, political theory, as well as classical, ecological, feminist, humanistic, institutional, Marxian, Post-Keynesian, and racial approaches to economics.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. degree in Political Economy, Political Science, Economics, Sociology or other related fields is required. A demonstrable track-record showing a commitment to the study of real-world problems and policy is expected. Qualified ABD candidates will be considered.
