ICANN was established in 1998 as a not-for-profit, public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to its global public interest mission. ICANN performs the key technical and operational role of ensuring that the Internet's unique identifier systems are secure, stable and resilient. ICANN uses a unique, bottom-up, volunteer-driven multistakeholder model to facilitate community development of policies for the management of unique identifiers.
ICANN’s mission impacts every country across every continent and requires engaging with a global community of actively participating stakeholders representing governments, businesses, academia, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and individuals - all of whom are dedicated to this global public interest mission.
The Head of Engineering and Information Technology (E&IT) plays a key leadership role in driving the strategic vision, planning and implementation of ICANN’s global information systems infrastructure. This role will oversee the development and execution of enterprise-wide IT strategies, ensuring the alignment of technology solutions with business operations to achieve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. As the leader of all information technology-related operations, the Head of E&IT is responsible for ICANN information technology infrastructure, networks, and processes including information technology and security and IT services, ensuring their seamless integration and optimal performance.
The Head of E&IT will be a strategic and collaborative leader with a forward-thinking mindset. They will be an experienced leader of both IT transformations and IT teams, with the ability to align complex technologies with business strategies. The Head of E&IT should have in-depth knowledge of Internet networking technologies, Internet addressing, and DNS, as well as the capacity to translate complex technical subjects for audiences with varying backgrounds and levels of expertise.
