UNOPS supports partners to build a better future by providing services that increase the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of peace building, humanitarian, and development projects. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.

New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.

Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners' programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

UNOPS has signed an agreement with the United Nations to implement the project activities for UN Global Pulse.

UN Global Pulse

UN Global Pulse is the Secretary-General’s Innovation Lab. We work at the intersection of innovation and the human sciences to inform, inspire, and strengthen the ability of the United Nations family and those it serves to anticipate, respond and adapt to the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Our teams are spread across the world, with hubs in Uganda, Indonesia, Finland and the United States. Drawing on more than a decade of experience with digital innovation in the UN family, UN Global Pulse unites specialists from the digital and social sciences in search of solutions to the world’s most pressing problems, from conflict to climate change.

The incumbent of the position will be personnel of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

UN Global Pulse’s Partnership team supports the UN Global Pulse network with both partnership management and new business approaches. This full spectrum support includes supporting the network in identifying prospects and stewarding them from prospects to donors, as well as first class account management, ensuring the partners are continually stewarded and developed.

UN Global Pulse has recently undertaken a review of its Partnerships Approach and has developed a new strategy, with support from external partners. This role will support the Partnership Lead in rolling out the new strategy across the network and tracking progress against the roadmap.

Functional responsibilities

The Partnerships Intern supports the work of UN Global Pulse under the direct supervision of the Partnerships Lead and will work in close collaboration with others across the UN Global Pulse network.

The Partnerships Intern will undertake the following duties:

  • Assist in the network-wide prospecting, identifying new prospects both financial and non-financial across Government and private sector;
  • Assist in drafting and developing new compelling material to be used for prospect cultivation and conversion;
  • Assist in drafting donor progress and end of project reports, aligning with UN Global Pulse Theory of Change and Monitoring & Evaluation frameworks;
  • Support and contribute to ongoing monitoring, learning and evaluation processes as well as reporting needs;
  • Support ongoing UN Global Pulse innovation projects led and supported by the Partnerships Team;
  • Performs other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

In coordination with the Partnerships Lead, the Partnerships Intern will report on progress and assure the timely deliverables of the agreed outputs. The Intern is expected to exercise flexibility in the internship regarding the potential of dynamically adapting working arrangements to deliver the outputs.

  • The Intern will work on the assignment full-time (candidates who can only work part-time might also be considered) for an estimated 6 months.
  • Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Furthermore, UNOPS may provide a one-time travel lump sum to support this internship. However, the interns must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.

Education:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or be pursuing an advanced university degree, such as a Master's, or be a recent graduate from such studies (within the last 3 years).
  • To be eligible for this particular internship, the candidate should have studied or be studying towards a university degree preferably in: International Relations, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field.

Experience:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with good attention to detail are desirable;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team is desirable;
  • Able to manage multiple tasks or deadlines with the support of their supervisor is desirable;
  • Experience in organizing events (virtual or in-person) with partners desirable;
  • Experience in conducting desk based research using multiple open-source databases is desirable.
  • Understanding of/experience with working with key issues such as sustainability, global development, fundraising or similar is desirable;

Language:

  • Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.
