JOB PURPOSE
The SFP Director has a number of unique, but also diverse tasks and responsibilities. The Director has the daily management powers of the SFP Foundation. The SFP Director ensures that the objectives and views of SFP are communicated effectively to appropriate officials in the EU institutions and in relevant European and International organisations. The Director advises the SFP Board of current EU thinking, possible legislation, policies and programmes which can improve or affect the work of the SFP and the SFP Coalition. The SFP Director proposes and develops medium-to-long term strategic plans for SFP and adapts these into annual work plans with SMART objectives. The Director has the fullest powers necessary for the administration and the management of the association. The only powers excluded from her/his competence are acts reserved for the Board by the law or by the Statutes of the SFP.
PROFILE AND SKILL SET
Education:
- University degree in a relevant discipline.
Experience, knowledge and skills required:
- At least 10 years of professional experience preferably as director or secretary general of a non-profit organisation;
- Thoroughly acquainted with EU policy-making procedures and structure of the institutions, role of NGOs and lobbying organisations;
- Extensive experience in fundraising and donor engagement;
- Accomplished in conducting policy analysis;
- Experience with managing people;
- Experience with managing publicly (including EU-funded) funded programmes;
- Strategic thinker;
- Excellent communication, diplomatic, networking and representational skills;
- Capable of working under pressure;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship-building;
- Knowledge of tobacco control is an asset;
- Multilingual, with native-level proficiency in English or equivalent ability.

MAIN FUNCTIONS
Leadership and management:
- Preparation, implementation and evaluation of multi-annual strategies;
- Preparation and implementation of annual work plans;
- Advising the SFP Board on the prioritisation and allocation of time and resources to EU tobacco control policy files;
- Advising the SFP Board on relevant EU initiatives and the need for and timing of responses, and of other opportunities to present information to the EU and other bodies;
- Leading and supervising the recruitment, contracting, management and appraisal of permanent and temporary staff members for the SFP Brussels Secretariat;
- Leading the advocacy and policy work of the Policy and Communications team;
- Proactive media engagement to build relationships and increase coverage of SFP's initiatives;
- Knowledge of tobacco control, commercial determinants of health and NCDs prevention.
Fundraising and sustainability:
- Responsible for implementation and review of the SFP Fundraising Strategy and Annual Plans;
- Responsible for development and evaluation of income generating strategies, including contracts, budgets and projects; as well as the financial management;
- Identifying and applying to relevant calls for funding, tenders, applications, and other fundraising activities to secure the sustainability of the organisation;
- Building relationships with new partners and joining consortium to apply for relevant funding calls;
- Donors engagement;
- Ensuring alignment of SFP fundraising actions with SFP strategic goals and policy objectives.
Representation:
- Develop networks with relevant staff of the Commission and members of relevant EP Committees and inform them pro-actively of the aims, objectives, views and issues of concern to SFP;
- Represent SFP and widely communicate its vision on tobacco control to policy makers at international, European and national including public relations with key stakeholders;
- Maintain contacts with international networks in the fields of tobacco control, and government bodies on both national, European and global level;
- Develop a visible advocacy role for SFP in the EU institutions and other relevant European bodies;
- The Director can be assisted by outside consultants in duties concerning strategic planning and lobbying as agreed with the Board.
Coalition management and international cooperation:
- Maintaining close contact with the SFP Coalition (Main partners, Associate partners and Advocacy partners) to ensure the best knowledge of current opportunities, challenges and developments in tobacco control at any time;
- Informing the Board rapidly of changes in SFP’s working environment with recommendations for appropriate (re)action;
- Carry out other duties and activities in order to ensure the achievement of the overall goals of the organisation;
- Maintaining cooperation with international networks in the fields of tobacco control, and government bodies on both national, European and global level.
