About the Position

The Senior Manager, Policy and International Relations supports the Assistant Vice Presidents’ leadership, oversees new content creation standards, works collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, and supports team members in achieving shared goals and objectives.

This position is responsible for leading the Council’s policy development in two areas – adoption strategies for member board alignment with NCARB’s model programs and national standards and facilitating the U.S. licensure of foreign architects. This includes contributing to program development after analyzing the political environment, laws and rules, and trends, to ensure programs can be promptly and effectively adopted at the jurisdictional level. It also includes developing plans to evolve existing international programs and policies to best integrate international architects into future licensure programs. This position will support escalated international architect issues from the Customer Relations department and with Member Board engagement.

•    Serve in leadership role and collaborate with relevant team members to meet Council’s vision, mission, and goals.
•    Consult with and keep supervisor informed on status of all projects.
•    Build coalitions internally and externally (with peers, team members, Member Boards, volunteers, collateral, and associated organizations, etc.) where appropriate to share best practices and achieve common goals.
•    Facilitate cooperation and teamwork throughout the organization. Communicate and operate in an open manner so that decisions and actions are clear and visible.

Core Responsibilities – Department Specific

 

Policy

  • Develop strategies for the adoption of national standards and model programs
  • Support the AVP of Member Board and Volunteer Engagement and the AVP of Advocacy and External Engagement in the implementation of that strategy
  • Work with licensing boards and external partners on the adoption of laws and regulations consistent with the NCARB models.
  • Analyze the substantive issues and proposals relating to architectural registration laws and regulations at the state and federal level.
  • Provide guidance and insight into the development and delivery of outreach materials for member boards and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an expert level of understanding regarding member relations and external engagement.
  • Maintain a proficient level of understanding of programs’ rules, requirements, and service standards.

 

International Engagement

  • Liaison with international organizations in partnership with the Manager, External and International Outreach.
  • Responsible for international policy evolution.
  • Responsible for engaging with Mutual Recognition Agreement countries to support the maintenance of existing agreements and implementation of any new agreements.
  • Serve as a staff liaison for committees and task forces as needed.
  • Manage responses to escalated stakeholder issues identified through Customer Relations, online communities, or social media relating to international relations.
  • Collaborate on ongoing program marketing and communication messaging development.

  • Bachelor’s Degree: or a combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in policy analysis and/or international relations
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects/campaigns.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using technology and a wide variety of software applications to include Adobe (PDF) Applications and Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Experience in an agile environment preferred.
  • Ability to travel, including weekends.
