The Controller, Global Accounting and Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for the oversight of THP’s global accounting operations and financial reporting. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller plays a key strategic role in ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and accuracy of the organization’s financial systems and compliance processes.
This role manages the finance team based in the U.S. (currently three staff) and works in close partnership with teams across THP’s Program and Partner Countries, Global Grants and Compliance, and Global Operations. The Controller leads all U.S. office financial functions, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and financial reporting. The role also supports consolidated budgeting, reporting and audit processes across global entities.
The position is based at THP’s Global Office in New York City and requires regular in-office presence.
We offer a highly competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. The salary range for this position is $120,000-$160,000. This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime. The candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship.
Essential Functions
Global Accounting and Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for the Global Office (U.S.), including accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Serve as a resource and advisor to Program Country finance teams on reporting standards and accounting practices.
- Lead timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings; review and approve reconciliations and financial statements.
- Collaborate with fundraising colleagues to ensure accurate classification of revenue, deferred revenue, and cost allocations in Sage Intacct.
- Partner with the CFO to lead financial audits, prepare schedules for Form 990, footnotes, and other regulatory reports.
- Coordinate the global audit process across Program and Partner Countries; consolidate financials, record elimination entries, and draft the consolidated financial statements
- Provide financial reporting and variance analysis (e.g., Global Consolidated Budget U.S. Departments’, Cash Flow Forecast) for internal management use.
- Support Program Country finance teams as needed; participate in hiring and onboarding of finance leadership in-country.
Global Budgeting, Forecasting and Tracking
- Lead the annual global budgeting process for the U.S. office and Program Countries, in close coordination with Global Grants and Compliance, Country Leaders, and Heads of Finance.
- Manage departmental budgets for the U.S. Global Office; provide variance analysis and support Executive Team discussions with budget owners.
- Prepare and monitor consolidated global budgets and U.S. cash flow forecasts; ensure alignment with Program Country rolling budgets and provide financial insights to the CFO and Executive Team.
- Maintain updated rolling projections in collaboration with Global Grants and Compliance and Global Fundraising teams.
- Consolidate and analyze monthly financial reports from Program Countries, identifying trends in spending and cash flow.
- Provide timely, accurate monthly budget vs. actual reports with variance explanations to internal stakeholders.
U.S Treasury and Global Cash Management
- Monitor U.S. treasury operations and prepare short-term cash forecasts; advise CFO and DCEO on potential risks or shortfalls.
- Evaluate cash transfer requests between the Global Office, fundraising partners, and Program Countries; validate and approve transfers.
- Approve payments to vendors and country offices.
- Assess foreign exchange exposure and recommend mitigation strategies in collaboration with the Global Grants and Compliance function.
Systems and Process Improvement
- Serve as Finance Administrator for the organization’s integrated financial and grants management system (Sage Intacct).
- Collaborate with the CFO and Grants & Compliance team to design and rollout standardized financial management and grants reports.
- Partner with the US Office functions to integrate systems such as payroll, timekeeping, travel, and expense reporting with Intacct.
- Support the development and implementation of global financial policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and donor requirements.
- Recommend improvements to U.S. financial operations and processes for enhanced efficiency and accountability
Other
- Contribute to organization-wide initiatives and team-building activities beyond the finance function.
- Represent THP’s at external meetings, presentations, and relevant sector events.

Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification is strongly preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, including working with multilateral and bilateral donor-funded programs, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Prior experience in an international NGO or global nonprofit setting is strongly preferred.
Specialized Knowledge Needed for Job Performance
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and federal compliance requirements.
- Expertise in complex multi-layered budgeting and forecasting with strong knowledge of financial data analysis and performance metrics
- Proficiency with financial software applications such as Sage Intacct; an ability to effectively manage and administer financial systems with integration to the other systems.
- High-level proficiency in Excel; familiarity with Google Workspace and financial reporting tools.
- Strong accounting and global finance operations expertise, with a proven track record of delivering clean, audit-ready financial statements across multiple entities, and maintaining robust financial controls and reporting systems.

- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor finance teams across global locations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities; able to deliver strategic financial insights.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.

- Fluency in Spanish and/or French.
- Experience working across multiple time zones and with distributed teams.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings or evenings as needed.
- Limited travel may be needed domestic and international.
