Position description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. A force for humanity, IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity and hope to millions. If you're a solutions-driven, passionate change-maker, come join us in positively impacting the lives of millions of people world-wide for a better future.

Signpost
Winner of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Award in 2023, Signpost is a digitally enabled responsive information service that supports and empowers populations in crisis, including asylum-seekers, migrants, and people who have experienced violence. Signpost meets communities on the digital platforms they already use and aims to deliver information that is contextualized to their specific needs and speaks to their lived realities, so that they can make informed decisions about how to stay safe, exercise their rights, and get access to services. This approach draws on evidence that people are more likely to trust and act on information that is responsive to their needs and that comes from “peers” rather than authority figures. Signpost was developed by the IRC and Mercy Corps in 2015 in Greece and is now active in over 20 countries on 5 continents.

Signpost As a Digital Safety Net for Unaccompanied Children
IRC launched the Signpost instance ImportaMí in September 2021, to reach unaccompanied migrant and asylum-seeking children who are at risk of falling through the cracks, vulnerable to receiving in absentia removal orders, or missed opportunities to secure lawful immigration status, as well as to exploitation, trafficking, or social exclusion.

IRC is looking for a Community Outreach & Mapping Specialist who will focus on service mapping and outreach to service providers across the United States to support ImportaMí’s partnerships and referral work.

Job Overview:
The Community Outreach & Mapping Specialist plays a key role in expanding and maintaining ImportaMí’s interactive service map and internal database of service providers that support unaccompanied immigrant children. This role is responsible for identifying, verifying, and publishing information on legal and social services across the United States, ensuring they are accessible, accurate, and relevant. The Specialist works closely with IRC’s ImportaMí team, internal IRC departments, and external partners to strengthen referral networks, improve visibility of local resources, and promote equitable access to services.

This position is anticipated to be funded through July 31, 2026. Continuation is subject to ongoing funding availability.

Major Responsibilities:

● Conduct desktop and field research to identify, evaluate, and document service providers.
● Maintain and update both the public-facing service map and the internal database, ensuring timely updates and accuracy.
● Initiate and maintain professional relationships with service providers, presenting the ImportaMí project clearly and consistently.
● Follow up regularly with providers to verify services and encourage ongoing collaboration.
● Coordinate closely with teammates to identify gaps in services based on direct feedback from children and team members working with them.
● Partner with the Content Coordinator to share new services and provider updates through social media and other communication channels.
● Tailor service descriptions for publication, ensuring clarity, language accessibility, and cultural relevance.
● Regularly review and edit posted service information to reflect changes and uphold user trust.
● Monitor feedback mechanisms helping ensure accountability.
● As needed backstop and support other ImportaMí team members.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in social justice, immigrants’ rights, community advocacy or a related field preferred.
