Position description

The contribution it can make

  • Technical support and advice to the justice and penitentiary components of peacekeeping missions led by the DPO regarding personnel and capacity needs;
  • Exchange with Member States for the nomination of qualified experts for assignments in peacekeeping missions;
  • Collaboration in recruitment and selection processes for secondments of specialized personnel in the justice and penitentiary sector (GPP, Gratis Type II, etc.), including rotations, mission extensions, and repatriations;
  • Support in the development of new and innovative secondment modalities, including specialized teams and missions in non-mission contexts;
  • Contribute to the implementation of the DPO's Gender Equality Strategy through targeted awareness-raising measures, data collection, and support for initiatives aimed at promoting women in the uniformed sector;

What sets it apart?

  • Master's degree in law, criminology, social sciences, human resources management, or related discipline;
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in the judicial or penitentiary sector or in human resources management; experience in transition, development, or post-conflict contexts is an advantage;
  • Excellent knowledge of international standards on the rule of law, as well as strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Excellent command of Office applications; experience in database management is an advantage;
  • Excellent knowledge of English; knowledge of French is appreciated;


Additional requirements of the Swiss JPO program:
  • Swiss citizenship;
  • Age not exceeding 32 years at the time of the first interview;
  • Two official Swiss languages;
  • Category B driving licence;

He will contribute directly to the promotion of international peace and the strengthening of the rule of law. In this challenging position, he will work at the heart of the UN to professionalize and further develop the justice and penitentiary components of peacekeeping missions.
