PensionsEurope represents national associations of pension funds and similar institutions for workplace and other funded pensions. PensionsEurope has 21 member associations in 16 EU Member States and 3 other European countries which cover different types of funded pensions for over 65 million people and over €2.5 trillion of assets managed for future pension payments.
As the leading voice of funded pensions at the EU level, we advocate for well-functioning, sustainable, and adequately funded pension systems, working closely with European institutions and global partners.
Your Role: Secretary General
We are seeking a visionary, and strategic leader to become the next Secretary General of PensionsEurope at a critical time for the development of funded pensions in Europe.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and based in Brussels, you will be responsible for leading the association’s policy, governance, operational, and financial activities, while ensuring the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and organisational integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Representation
- Represent PensionsEurope at the highest levels with EU institutions, regulators, industry stakeholders, and international partners;
- Shape and implement the strategic direction of PensionsEurope in close collaboration with the Chairperson, Board of Directors, and members;
- Lead engagement with EU legislative and regulatory processes affecting pensions, capital markets, sustainability, taxation, and financial services important for pension funds;
- Support and expand the network of members and institutional partners, including cooperation with the European Commission, EIOPA, ESMA, OECD, other relevant institutions and the World Pension Alliance.
Governance & Board Support
- Ensure strong corporate governance practices, including clear decision-making processes, transparency, and accountability to members;
- Support the Board of Directors and preparatory committees with high-quality reporting, analysis, and strategic advice;
- Ensure compliance with the association’s statutes, internal rules, and applicable Belgian and EU legal frameworks;
- Manage potential conflicts of interest and promote ethical standards across all activities.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Establish and oversee an effective risk management framework, covering operational, financial, reputational, and regulatory risks;
- Ensure appropriate internal controls and procedures are in place to safeguard the organisation.
Financial Oversight & Sustainability
- Oversee the financial management of the association, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting to the Board;
- Ensure prudent use of resources and long-term financial sustainability of the organisation;
- Support the development and implementation of funding models (including membership contributions and other revenue streams);
- Ensure transparency and accountability in financial reporting and audit processes.
Operational Leadership
- Lead and manage the Secretariat, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive team culture;
- Coordinate policy, advocacy, and communication activities of the association.
Profile
- Proven experience in pensions, EU affairs, financial regulation, or a related field;
- Solid understanding of EU policymaking processes and institutional landscape;
- Strong strategic thinking and communication skills, with a track record of influencing policy and decision-making;
- Strong understanding of governance, risk management, and financial oversight in a membership-based organisation;
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams and complex stakeholder environments;
- High level of integrity and commitment to transparency and accountability;
- Fluency in English (additional EU languages an asset).
