Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Institutional Giving contributes to the global, creative, and inclusive organization and office environment of WMF and is an integral part of WMF’s collaborative and impactful Development Department. In collaboration with the Senior Director, the Senior Manager of Institutional Giving helps build, sustain, and grow the organization’s Institutional portfolio, including government agencies, foundations, and corporations. Major areas of responsibility include researching, writing, and submitting compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, pitch decks and presentations, interim and final reports, meeting talking points, and other fundraising materials.
Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Director in the design and implementation of high-level fundraising strategies to secure support from government agencies, foundations, and corporations, while expanding WMF’s global fundraising reach.
- Manage a designated portfolio of funders from identification through solicitation and stewardship, including the preparation of inquiries, proposals, reports, cover letters, and other correspondence, while providing additional support to the Senior Director with her portfolio.
- Research and build pipelines of prospective new and renewed funders, aligning their interests with WMF's mission and strategic plan to support our highest organizational priorities.
- Steward WMF’s Institutional Donors at an elevated level, ensuring high-level engagement, awareness, and community-building.
- Work with the Coordinator of Institutional Giving to manage the division's annual calendar, including oversight of the reporting schedule, grant compliance, and deliverables, ensuring that all application and report deadlines are met in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with WMF staff from Programs, Finance, Communications, and Affiliates to gather and share information to build fundable proposals and accurate reports, ensuring grant compliance and delivery of expected grant outcomes.
- Prepare background research and other materials for the Executive Team and Senior Director in preparation for donor and prospect meetings; participate in such meetings as appropriate.
- Work with the Coordinator to ensure accurate monthly budget reports, Board Book reports, and other internal financial reporting and narratives.
- In coordination with other Development team members, contribute to the periodic review, revision, and/or creation of Development Department procedures.
- Work with the Coordinator and ensure effective use of Raisers Edge database to enter action items, funder correspondence; accurately enter gifts; track application and report deadlines; and monitor stewardship activities. Also ensure the complete and up-to-date recordkeeping of such documents on WMF platforms.
- Represent the organization at special events, public events, and meetings as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with a major in English, Art History, Architecture, International Relations, History, Humanities, Library Sciences, or a related field preferred
- 5 years of experience in institutional (government, foundation, and/or corporate) fundraising, grant writing, and prospect research
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with colleagues at all organizational levels
- Experience in researching and preparing successful proposals for foundation, corporate, and particularly government funders
- Highly organized and detail oriented, with a demonstrated ability to manage and track multiple priorities and projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to compile, analyze, and report information succinctly
- Excellent computer skills including proficiencies in Microsoft Office Suite; general database knowledge required, familiarity with Raisers Edge a plus

We also provide a robust retirement plan and the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment as workload permits, and more. The salary range for this position is $80,000– $85,000.
