We’re seeking a Director of Events, Partner and Project Management to lead partner relationships and refine our event operations to further strengthen and differentiate our virtual and in-person events.
Position Overview:
Foreign Policy (FP) is seeking a Director of Events, Partner, and Project Management to join our dynamic team. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the seamless execution of events while maintaining strong partner relationships and delivering on project objectives. The Director will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that FP's events uphold editorial standards, meet partner expectations, and are delivered with the highest standards of production excellence. Responsibilities
Partner Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with event partners, understanding their objectives and expectations.
Provide exceptional client relations to external stakeholders by promptly addressing their needs and concerns.
Conduct regular check-ins and feedback sessions to strengthen long-term relationships.
Collaborate with partners and relevant internal stakeholders to shape and execute event deliverables that align with objectives, creative guidelines, and FP’s editorial vision.
Effectively communicate with partners, ensuring that their goals are met throughout the event planning and execution process.
Manage partner expectations and maintain a high level of satisfaction.
Analyze post-event partner feedback and performance metrics to make data-driven improvements.
Project Management:
Manage project kickoff process, including partner intake and cross-functional project kickoff meetings.
Develop project timelines and milestones, providing clear accountability for each task.
Effectively synthesize complex topics pertaining to geopolitics, global markets, development, security, democracy, technology, and other areas into compelling concept ideas.
Identify compelling speakers and leading global voices with relevant subject matter expertise and distinguished backgrounds on a range of thematic issues
Proactively and creatively identify, pursue, and confirm high-caliber speakers across government, industry, civil society, and academia globally
Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal content, creative, strategic development, and marketing teams, as well as external vendors.
Proactively identify bottlenecks or risks in project execution and devise contingency plans.
Event Production
Have familiarity with full event lifecycle and comfort producing in-person events, including day-of coordination
Identify and evaluate event venues and evaluate production tradeoffs and budget implications
Evaluate, secure, and manage vendors including AV, catering, and photography
Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in foreign policy / global affairs at the intersection of policy and business.
5+ years of experience in high-volume, fast-paced events operations.
Proven track record of successful client and relationship management.
Exceptional client relations skills, strong commercial instincts, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in managing complex projects in a cross-functional environment, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality results.
Ability to effectively manage outside contractors, including AV vendors, venue coordinators, registration/hospitality teams, and program support staff.
Strong attention to detail with a natural ability to think critically, problem-solve, and provide effective solutions to overcome challenges.
Technical proficiency and ability to craft polished and professional public-facing documents.
Keen editorial judgment with a focus on presenting compelling, diverse, and balanced perspectives on a range of issues for FP’s global audiences, with respect for and in protection of the FP brand.
Demonstrated comfort with evolving priorities, strong judgment under pressure, and an outcome-focused approach that balances attention to detail with practical execution.
A highly collaborative approach, with a willingness to step in across functions and support work beyond one’s immediate portfolio when needed.
The ability to work in the U.S. without a sponsor visa.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $115,000, depending on experience. Where you land within that range will depend on factors like your experience, skills, and background, and we're happy to discuss compensation in more detail during the hiring process.
Foreign Policy offers a comprehensive benefits program that gives eligible employees the flexibility to choose the right benefits for themselves and their families. There are three subsidized medical plans, a vision plan, and two dental plans, provided by Aetna, which can be paired with flexible spending accounts.
All D.C.-based staff are required to work from the office on the same day one time each month, with all U.S.-based staff convening in D.C. a few times a year.
