Position description

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employs many people nationwide. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., we have 10 regional offices located across the country. FEMA works closely with states, local governments, and tribal partners to coordinate and support disaster operations, ensuring a unified and effective federal response.

In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Emergency Services Division, Readiness Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The ideal candidate for this position will possesses superior communication skills and has extensive experience in managing preparedness programs (with an emphasis on planning) with multiple assignments and competing deadlines. In this position, you will serve as an EMS (prep) managing preparedness programs (with an emphasis on planning). Typical assignments include: Developing & coordinating projects and programs related to preparedness policies and strategies. Preparing written reports and briefs on draft agency policies, procedures for leadership. Providing recommendations and/or solutions on draft agency policies and procedures for leadership. Serving as SME at conferences, meetings, committees. Participating on inter-agency reviews of emergency planning/preparedness issues.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Coordinating the planning and delivery of local, state, tribal, territorial, or national level exercises; AND, Assessing emergency preparedness plans and procedures; AND, Reviewing inquiries and providing recommendations concerning preparedness issues/initiatives.
