Position description
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is looking for an intern to support the partnership and engagement efforts towards Brussels-based EU decision makers. DRC Brussels is a small team working on partnership and advocacy towards EU institutions. You will be part of a small and dynamic team in Brussels, reporting to our EU Partnership Lead, working alongside and supporting the EU Partnership team, and collaborating with other team members including the Senior EU Advocacy Advisor, the Regional Finance Coordinator, and the EU Director.
About the job
You will collaborate with and provide support to colleagues at the DRC Brussels Representation, with a particular focus on the following tasks:
- Monitor developments, provide analyses, and inform relevant colleagues, on issues related to ECHO, MENA, INTPA, NEAR, and FPI funding as well as the EU’s role in different humanitarian crises and conflict-affected settings and the EU’s humanitarian and resilience policies.
- Support DRC quantitative/qualitative funding and performance analyses as well as analyses of policies and programming related to DRC EU partnership engagement.
- Maintain DRC’s ECHO and EC Development grant databases.
- Support with tasks related to both internal and external meetings, including virtual and in-person meetings of DRC country and HQ colleagues (e.g. logistics, scheduling, note-taking, briefing materials).
- Information gathering and drafting of internal and external written products (e.g. inputs for external questionnaires, guidance notes, donor-related tools).
- Support with stakeholder mapping and maintain contact lists for partnership outreach.
- Maintain InSite (intranet) pages for the team and other communication tools, including the quarterly DRC Brussels Newsletter.
- Create news briefings that synthesize daily developments relevant to DRC’s work.
- Formatting and proofreading documents, EU donor-related tools, and InSite pages.
- Other administrative support.
Additional tasks may be assigned based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a strong interest in humanitarian operations, global displacement, and migration, as well as a good understanding of EU institutions and relevant legal frameworks. Excellent written and spoken English proficiency is essential.
Moreover, we expect the following:
Required
- University degree (bachelor required, master recommended) in law, social sciences, international development, humanitarian aid, or any other relevant degree.
- Be proficient in MS Office and Office 365, with a good understanding of the use of Excel to support data collection and perform funding analyses.
- Strong interpersonal and good communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Capacity to work in a systematic, well-organised, and structured manner.
- Have an eye for detail and strive to get the job done.
Desirable
- Knowledge of, and interest in, international and EU humanitarian and development funding, as well as NGO funding and partnership engagement.
- Familiar with the work of civil society, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations, and/or EU institutions.
- Working knowledge of written and spoken French.
