Reporting Line: Youth Engagement Officer

Role Purpose

We are seeking to recruit an ambitious and driven Youth Engagement Intern to support the delivery of the 5Rights’ Youth Engagement programme.

The intern will contribute to coordination, facilitation and conduction of consultations with the 5Rights Youth Council, Youth Network, and partner youth organisations that inform 5Rights’ work. This role would suit someone looking for hands-on experience in global approaches to youth engagement in an international organisation, including working with children and young people from all around the globe.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily communication and engagement with our global youth network, ensuring they feel connected and supported.
• Support the smooth organisation of the Youth Council and its working groups.
• Facilitate sharing resources, communicating updates, and creating opportunities among the youth network and with other youth organisations to foster a strong community.
• Help coordinate training and development sessions for Youth Council members to enhance their skills and engagement.
• Help coordinate logistics for podcast production, including scheduling interviews and managing content delivery.
• Assist in the planning and execution of Youth Engagement activities, including online sessions and discussions.
• Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources for children and young people.
• Support the Youth Engagement Officer in managing youth participation events and activities, including large-scale consultations with children.
• Maintain project documentation and reporting to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Collect and analyse data to inform project decisions and improve programme performance.
• Participate in advocacy efforts, supporting the integration of youth perspectives in policy development and campaigns.
• Help research and identify new funding opportunities to sustain and grow youth projects.

Essential Skills and Attributes

• Degree in social sciences, youth work, communication, or a related field.
• Demonstrable organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to help facilitate meaningful youth engagements.
• Basic data collection and analysis skills to help evaluate project outcomes and inform decision-making.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to engage and inspire young audiences.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse groups, including youth, stakeholders, and team members; with an awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences, ensuring inclusive practices in youth engagement activities.
• A creative mindset with the ability to contribute innovative ideas for youth engagement initiatives and podcast content.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
• A strong commitment to youth advocacy and empowerment.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; additional languages, especially Spanish, are an advantage.

Desirable skills and attributes

• An understanding of the challenges faced by young people in the digital environment.

Mentorship and professional development

• Collaborate with the Youth Engagement Officer to identify personal learning opportunities and professional development activities.
• Receive guidance and support in developing skills related to youth engagement, project management, and advocacy.

Practical Details:

We are offering either:

• A six-month remote CIP (professional immersion contract) based in Brussels, Belgium, with a starting date in October. This paid internship offers a stipend of a gross €1,500 per month. Applicants must live in Belgium and have the legal right to work in Belgium.

Or

• A six month fixed term contract based in the UK. Salary of £27,040 per annum pro rata. Ability to travel to London for regular meetings is an advantage. Applicants must live in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.

For either role, there may be occasional international travel and candidates should be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends to accommodate different times.
