Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Political Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Political Philosophy to begin in August 2027. The ideal candidate will have an Area of Specialization in Political Philosophy with an emphasis on the foundations of democracy. Within this AOS, we plan to look for Areas of Concentration in deliberative democracy, epistemological aspects of democracy, philosophy of law, pluralism, and non-state democracy. We expect such a candidate to meet needs at both the departmental and institutional level by teaching courses in the above-mentioned areas and perhaps by participating in interdisciplinary courses and related activities and programs offered by the College. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence as both teachers and scholars. As teachers, we seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to innovative, inclusive excellence in teaching. As scholars, we seek candidates with an active, fruitful research agenda who are cognizant of our obligations to the wider community.

This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a research leave prior to tenure review of either a full year at 80% salary or a semester at full salary, and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for tenured faculty. To enable a smooth transition to Holy Cross, new full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors receive start-up funding to support their research and professional development and have a one-course reduction in their first year of teaching (i.e., 2-2). This position offers full benefits and a starting salary of $102,500.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in scholarship and undergraduate teaching as well as a commitment to inclusive pedagogies. A Ph. D. in Philosophy is required by the beginning of the appointment.
