Head of AU Advocacy & Liaison Office (OiA)

Position description

Oxfam in Africa is seeking an experienced leader with recognized influencing skills to head its African Union (AU) Advocacy and Liaison Office, based in Addis Ababa. As a member of the Africa Platform Leadership Team, you will drive Oxfam's engagement with the African Union and its institutions, develop and implement high-impact advocacy strategies to influence continental policy and practice, represent Oxfam at the highest levels with the AU, build strategic relationships, and help position Oxfam as a credible, trusted partner. The role bridges continental policy spaces and national realities, ensuring advocacy is coherent, impactful, and grounded in community realities. It reports to Africa Leadership with a matrix line to the Advocacy, Campaigns and Engagement (ACE) Directorate.

Qualifications

Candidates should have strong leadership in advocacy and influencing, solid experience engaging with the African Union or comparable multilateral institutions, and a demonstrated ability to design and deliver influencing strategies combining policy analysis, advocacy, media communication and partnerships. Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills, comfort navigating complex multi-stakeholder environments, and strategic/political analysis ability to translate AU processes into influencing opportunities for countries and partners are required. Candidates should be able to lead diverse teams within a global network, fostering collaboration and accountability, with strong knowledge of the African socio-political context and commitment to feminist, decolonial and partner-led approaches. Professional fluency in English and French is essential.

This is a 2-year fixed-term contract, Grade B1 International, with remuneration in line with Oxfam International's salary scale plus core benefits and global benefits applicable to internationally recruited, relocated staff, based on a 36-hour work week.
