The Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), founded in 1982, is the only membership organization dedicated to international education leadership. AIEA is the professional home for leaders and changemakers from across the international education sector, united by a shared commitment to shaping the future of global education. AIEA is embarking on an exciting era of organizational transformation. Together with the AIEA Board of Directors, AIEA Committees and Task Forces, and the broader AIEA membership, we have started a new chapter marked by a thoughtful rebrand, updated messaging, modernized systems, and an entrepreneurial mindset. We are doing foundational work today that will set us up for growth, sustainability, industry relevance, and the nimbleness to lead the field of international education boldly into the future while keeping our core values and constituencies at the center of our strategy.

The Managing Director is AIEA's deputy executive leader, playing a comprehensive leadership role across the association through partnerships, Board relations, business development, people management, and operations. Serving as strategic support for the CEO, the Managing Director is a force multiplier and innovator — a problem solver and catalyst for the organization's work. Internally, this role leads a small and mighty team spanning membership, communications and marketing, and programs and events, and serves as the CEO's closest partner in Board relations and governance. Externally, the Managing Director is a key representational voice for AIEA — building relationships, developing new business opportunities, and establishing the organization's thought leadership in the field.

• Act as a strategic thought partner to the CEO across organizational areas, supporting new programming and business development that advance AIEA’s strategic plan and overall mission. Help champion and enable AIEA’s long-term goals while translating future vision into short- and medium-term actions.

Operations

• Help carry the operational and administrative load for the organization. This includes liaising with outside service providers, overseeing timely and accurate deliverables (internally and externally), optimizing systems and processes, and serving as a proactive problem solver.

Board Management

• Support overall Board management, including executive communication, meeting preparation, governance operations, and compliance.

Partnerships

• Develop, champion, and grow a strategic partnership portfolio for AIEA, fostering key relationships, aligning partnerships with strategic goals, and building mutually beneficial alliances that serve AIEA members and the industry at large.

Representation

• Serve as a strong representative of AIEA — speaking on the organization's behalf, participating in industry events, providing expert perspective, and acting as a spokesperson for the industry. Enhance AIEA’s external profile through media engagements, writing, social media presence, and other thought leadership opportunities.

Team Leadership & Development

• Bring energy, focus, and drive to the team's culture, and support the ongoing development of staff, interns, and volunteers. Oversee the day-to-day work of colleagues managing the membership, communications and marketing, and programs and events. Manage the performance review process, ongoing professional development, and overall success and growth of staff.
