Position description is a user’s guide to the news produced by the beat reporters and subject-issue experts who know it best. And we’re looking for a new staff writer for our foreign section who can lead our coverage of what is the biggest story in recent US history: the expanding scandals surrounding Trump’s ties to Russia.

The ideal candidate is someone with knowledge of the FBI and the intelligence community who can dig into the substance and politics of the various investigations to give readers a clearer understanding of what each probe is looking into, the significance of individual developments on Capitol Hill and elsewhere, and the people (many largely unknown) who are at the center of it all.

This is one of the most important jobs in the newsroom and will involve a wide variety of short and long posts.

If you have…

  • Sources throughout the national security world and a desire to go deep on the news of the day, particularly the ins and outs of each Trump probe and the cumulative impact of them on the president and his administration.
  • At least three years of experience covering the FBI, Capitol Hill, or the intelligence community. Familiarity with national security law would be a significant plus.
  • An analytical approach to major stories and a passion for digging into everything from fine-grain analysis of individual hearings to step-back pieces that try to look beyond the news of the day or the week
  • An enthusiastic willingness to discuss important topics on your beat in Vox podcasts and videos.

… you may be the writer we’re looking for!
