Background: The Research Department (RES) is looking for a communications professional to oversee and execute a diversified dissemination program that reaches out to ever broader audiences with the results of RES research. This is a staff position for a professional with at least 4 years of relevant experience to begin work November 1, 2017.
The team: You will work with a group of PhD. Economists researching a wide variety of economic and social topics ranging from macroeconomics and finance to education and political institutions. You will coordinate your work with a dissemination team including editors, journalists, event-planners and IT professionals.
What you’ll do:
Develop, oversee, and execute a diversified dissemination program that encompasses digital and print publications, a comprehensive social media strategy and a set of events.
Grow the community of RES readers and followers and reach ever larger audiences with the results of RES research.
Write, edit and re-write text for a number of audiences including academics, policymakers, development practitioners, the press, and more general readers.
Operate as the IDB’s leading publications authority, fielding questions and overseeing compliance with the Publications Protocol, reviewing all IDB prospectuses and attending to all other publications matters raised in the Studies and Publications Committee.
For a candidate with sufficient experience and appropriate qualifications responsibilities would include supervising a team of professionals (editors, journalists, event-planners and IT professionals).
Develop and execute a dissemination budget including the contracting of outside editors, translators, typesetters, designers, and programmers.
Coordinate the production, oversee the editing and dissemination of the IDB’s two flagship publications: the Development in the Americas (DIA) series and the Latin American and Caribbean Macroeconomic Report.
Assure quality control for RES published documents.
Skills you’ll need:
Education: A Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or related field.
Experience: At least 4 years of experience (8 years desired) in publications or communications management, knowledge of developing issues in Latin America and the Caribbean, extensive editorial experience, familiarity with economic terminology.
Languages: Proficient in English and in Spanish.
