Position description

The Department of Government at the College of William and Mary seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in politics of the Middle East and North Africa. Applicants from all subfields of political science or cognate disciplines are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates with interests in race, ethnicity, diaspora or migration politics. The successful candidate will have excellent preparation; will possess a demonstrated commitment to producing high-level scholarship and outstanding classroom teaching; will help the Department bring new perspectives to its research profile and curricular offerings; and will be interested in mentoring student research or conducting collaborative research with students. Teaching will include a mix of lecture and seminar courses at the undergraduate level and, for interested candidates, also can include opportunities to teach at the master’s level in the W&M Public Policy Program.

Our faculty also contribute to interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, Environmental Science and Policy, Gender Sexuality and Women’s Studies, Global Studies (which includes Asian and Middle Eastern Studies), International Relations, and Public Policy. William & Mary is located in Williamsburg, Virginia, convenient to Richmond (the state capital) and Washington, DC.


Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in political science or a cognate discipline at the time of appointment (August 10, 2018). Applicants must be prepared to teach Middle East politics to undergraduates at the intermediate and advanced level.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated interest or previous experience teaching research methods (introductory level and intermediate level qualitative or quantitative methods) is preferred but not required.
