Position description

We are currently recruiting for a Junior Advocacy Advisor, to join our Brussels Advocacy Office. Save the Children's Advocacy Office in Brussels works to create positive and lasting change for children by ensuring children's rights, health and humanitarian concerns are taken into account in global policies and processes and that States are held to account for their commitments to children.


The successful candidate will support Save the Children's work on EU domestic policies. In particular, you will follow legislative and policy developments related to asylum/migration and child poverty, while also monitoring other EU policy developments. You will attend and arrange events and meetings on behalf of Save the Children to ensure visibility of the organisation, and inform the team. In this role you will also get the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of EU asylum and migration policy, as well as of EU policies and funds to tackle child and educational poverty in Europe. Based on your expertise and evidence gathered through Save the Children programming, you will develop targeted advocacy strategies to make the EU's and Member States' policies in these areas better for children.You will also use your knowledge of the European institutions and of these areas of work to strengthen the EU Office's advocacy capacity as well as to support Save the Children's European members in strengthening their programmes and voice at European level.


This is an exciting opportunity for a degree qualified individual with relevant working experience in research and EU policy/politics, particularly in the field of asylum and migration and/or social policies. You will also have the ability to manage projects, with appropriate support and a willingness to work with a rapidly-changing set of priorities. 


We are looking for someone who is committed to Save the Children's values, is highly organised, is proactive and able to anticipate needs, and also has a strong sense of responsibility coupled with excellent teamwork skills. To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in particularly fluency in written and spoken English, including the ability to communicate with people of different cultural backgrounds. Additionally, French, Spanish or another UN language would be an asset.
