The Consulate General of Canada in New York is hiring a Readiness and Security Program Officer to provide assistance in supporting the delivery of the Canadian citizen services and emergency management programs.

Employment Tenure: Indeterminate. Summary of duties: 

The Readiness and Security Program Officer (RSPO) ensure that the Consulate General of Canada in New York is always in a state of readiness to respond to international emergencies affecting Canadian communities abroad, as well as maintaining and enhancing the mission’s operational and physical security. The RSPO is also expected to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of local authorities who provide emergency and security services and intelligence, and liaises with counterparts in other organizations.

Condition of employment (must be met):

  • Eligibility for a Government of Canada Reliability Status which includes a criminal and credit background check; and
  • Have Independent work authorization in the United States and status in accordance with United States protocol directives for foreign missions.

Essential requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate clearly how they meet the Education and Experience requirements listed below:

Language requirement: 

A high degree of fluency in written and oral English is required

Education: 

·      A degree from an accredited university or college; and/or a specialized education in corporate/public security or risk analysis; and/or an acceptable combination of relevant experience, education, and training related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.

Experience:

  • A minimum of four (4) years of recent working experience with an international organization, governmental organization, diplomatic mission or embassy in the area of emergency management and/or security management;
  • Experience in the field of Emergency and Crisis Management;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Experience in building and maintaining a network of professional emergency management and security contacts.

Rated requirements: 

Candidates who meet the Education and Experience requirements will be assessed on the following qualifications. The assessment may be a written test, an interview, an in-basket exercise, a skills test, or any combination of these methods.

Knowledge:

  • US Government security and emergency management institutions, organization structures and responsibilities;
  • Standard security mitigation features and practices for ensuring security of persons, information, and physical property;
  • Emergency management concepts theories and practices;
  • General office procedures including text preparation and formatting, handling correspondence, reports, letters, emails and filing.

Abilities:

  • Conduct training for employees (all levels in the organization) in the area of security awareness, emergency preparedness, emergency drills, emergency communication;
  • Respond to sensitive emergency situations with urgency and discretion;
  • Ability to work independently in a proactive and accountable manner as well as part of a larger team.

  • High degree of discretion, tact and professional integrity.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Specialized education in corporate security, emergency management, or risk analysis;.
  • Knowledge of mapping applications;.
  • Knowledge of French.
  • Knowledge of Canada
