Position description

One person in three in the world lives in poverty. Oxfam is determined to change that world by mobilizing the power of people against poverty.

Around the world, Oxfam works to find practical, innovative ways for people to lift themselves out of poverty and thrive. We save lives and help rebuild livelihoods when crisis strikes. And we campaign so that the voices of the poor influence the local and global decisions that affect them. In all we do, Oxfam works with partner organizations and alongside vulnerable women and men to end the injustices that cause poverty.

Oxfam is an international confederation of 20 organizations networked together in more than 90 countries, as part of a global movement for change, to build a future free from the injustice of poverty. The Oxfam International Secretariat is currently headquartered in Nairobi, with offices in Oxford, Washington DC, New York, Brussels, Geneva, and a liaison office with the Africa Union in Addis Ababa.

This post will be part of the OI Secretariat Advocacy & Campaigns team.

Context

The EU’s international development cooperation is going through major changes. Views on development aid are diverging as the political context in Europe is changing. Issues such as addressing migration and attracting private sector investment for development are substantially impacting the EU’s development policy.

This vacancy/post offers an opportunity to be part of influencing these political trends and the future of EU development cooperation, in order to ensure that it keeps its focus on poverty eradication and sustainable development, and remains rooted in human rights values.

The Role

Oxfam International is looking for an experienced EU policy advisor to improve the aid quantity and quality of the European Union’s and its member states. The focus of the position will be on key European and EU aid and development policies and processes, in particular the Multi-Annual Financial Framework, the EU‘s Financing for Development Processes, the European Consensus for Development, as well as following EU development policies on health, education and gender.

The successful applicant will have excellent knowledge of aid and development policy and trends, particularly at a European level, with proven record in advocacy, strong analytical and strategic skills, and an ability to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Commitments to the aims and objectives of Oxfam are essential.

Fluency in English required and competence in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
