Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Global Intelligence Analyst will have a passion for the intersection of intelligence analysis and business, who will become an integral contributor to the 3M Corporate Security organization. The ideal candidate will work closely with teams across the organization to understand information requirements, deliver timely analysis, and present key insights to internal customers through the collection, analysis, and distribution of actionable products relating to criminal, geopolitical, and other threats in diverse geographic areas that have the potential to affect business operations, assets, or employees.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Monitor global geopolitical events that may impact international travel, company events, and/or operations, and provide periodic and timely reporting
  • Maintain awareness of issues that could affect business operations or the security of personnel and assets, including terrorism, violent crime, natural disasters, travel issues, criminal trends, civil unrest, and workplace violence
  • Assist in maintaining, populating, and evaluating intelligence databases and sources
  • Conduct regular monitoring of online open source intelligence, social media platforms, the darkweb, and vendor tools for known and potential threats to 3M locations, employees, travelers, or assets and emerging incidents


  • Conduct strategic, tactical, and operational risk and threat assessments
  • Collect, assess, and organize intelligence and data into relevant, actionable reports
  • Use understanding of global security environment to prioritize, filter, and assess credibility of open source intelligence sources
  • Use analytical techniques, tools, and tradecraft to mitigate risk and add value to business decisions
  • Use research on a wide range of global issues to assess impact to 3M
  • Identify relevant emerging trends and early warning indicators
  • Engage with 3M stakeholders to identify intelligence and information requirements
  • Support other Corporate Security teams, such as executive protection, events, investigations, counter-intelligence, and physical security
  • Develop and evaluate source network


  • Produce insightful and actionable intelligence reports
  • Provide thorough and concise recommendations
  • Rapidly communicate emerging incidents and crises
  • Deliver briefings tailored to key stakeholders


  • Carry out duties in an honest and ethical manner, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality

Building Relationships

  • Create and maintain a network of information sharing and partnering relationships
  • Build partnerships with internal strategic business partners and stakeholders
  • Develop relationships with external governmental, law enforcement, academic, and private sector professionals
  • Represent 3M Corporate Security at conferences, working groups, and intelligence sharing events


  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in risk intelligence, threat analysis, business intelligence/analysis, competitive/market intelligence/analysis, crisis management, Intelligence Community, military, or law enforcement intelligence, or business continuity in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and social media
  • Experience creating infographics and using data visualization tools
  • Experience using structured analytic techniques to develop tailored intelligence products and provide threat or incident notifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (such as international relations, regional studies, history, economics, political science)
  • Proven ability to operate effectively under adverse and stressful conditions with little supervision
  • Strong technical abilities; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as social media
  • Superior writing and editing skills in English and understanding of intelligence analysis writing style and the intelligence cycle
  • Able to present and defend intelligence positions to a variety of audiences, including security colleagues, business representatives, and executives
  • In-depth knowledge of the global political, economic, and security environment; ability to identify international events of importance through multiple methods beyond the top headlines
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks, while maintaining strict deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills; a great degree of emotional intelligence and maturity
  • Demonstrated analytical expertise; ability to accurately draw conclusions through synthesizing raw data and information from multiple unrelated sources into a finished comprehensive product
  • Willingness to work on-call, shift, and/or irregular hours
  • Light travel (domestic and global)
  • Uses good judgment and proven ability to work with highly confidential information
  • Meticulous attention to detail, grammar, and style
  • Creative thinker, capable of spotting and forecasting emerging trends, threats, and tactics
  • Ability to build successful internal and external relationships and networks across cultures and industries
  • Demonstrated ability to mine open source information using a variety of technological tools and platforms
  • Experience as an intelligence analyst with the federal government, or as a private sector security or political risk analyst
  • Internationally-focused intelligence work, portfolio, and expertise
  • Fluency in one or more languages other than English
  • Existing relationships with government, law enforcement, and global associations relevant to the position
  • Experience using intelligence analysis tools and platforms
  • Ability to obtain U.S. government security clearance
  • GSOC, Command Center, or Analytical Unit experience
