Summary of Principal Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will support the employment unit functions which primarily include recruitment, onboarding and managing the employee life-cycle. The Human Resources Generalist will also perform a variety of confidential and administrative duties based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the Human Resources Generalist include the following:

  1. Provide in-depth recruitment support across the organization which includes, but is not limited to, sourcing candidates, screening resumes, coordinating search committees and interviews and creating and maintaining recruitment databases and electronic search files.
  2. Responsible for posting all AFSC job openings in the applicant tracking system and external sites as needed.
  3. Track recruitment timelines and ensure that recruitment process is in adherence with Human Resources policies.
  4. Provide advice and guidance to hiring managers and search committees across the organization.
  5. Support the Human Resources Department in the preparation and finalization of job descriptions. Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the official electronic job description database.
  6. Advise regions and central office regarding the appropriate AFSC Human Resources policies and procedures.
  7. Work with the Associate Director of Human Resources to determine if open positions should be targeted, in accordance with Affirmative Action policies and procedures.
  8. In collaboration with both central office and regional staff, oversee the onboarding process and new staff orientation program.
  9. Create new employee records, process bi-weekly employment changes and separations.
  10. Work in collaboration with the Associate Director of Human Resources and immigration attorney on visa matters related to applicants and staff.
  11. Provide support to the Position Evaluation Committee (PEC), as needed.
  12. Maintain the performance management system, including distribution of mid-point, end-of-probation, and annual performance evaluation materials. Produce monthly status reports and other periodic status reports, as needed.
  13. Conduct data analysis and produce periodic statistical and narrative reports as requested by the Associate Director of Human Resources.
  14. Work in collaboration with the HRIS Manager to troubleshoot issues and ensure efficient processes in the system.
  15. Conduct exit interviews and compile annual report.
  16. Responsible for setting up and maintaining all of the official personnel files.
  17. Assist with special projects and supporting other staff in the Human Resources Department and perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Human Resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Experience: A minimum of five years’ experience as a Human Resources Generalist/ Specialist. Multi-site or international experience highly desirable.

Other Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong knowledge of employment law.
  2. Demonstrated ability to take initiative within an established context, to complete work independently, to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate effective written and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to interact tactfully with a diverse group of people.
  4. Must be able to prioritize and manage work that involves multiple deadlines and to work under pressure and occasionally work at an evening or weekend meeting or travel to a region, if needed.
  5. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and carry out work effectively and efficiently.
  6. Must possess good judgment skills and be able to deal constructively with conflict and problem solving.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information.
  8. Experience using HRIS and payroll information systems, including a high proficiency in Word, and the use of presentation software.
  9. Must be able to respond promptly to inquiries and manage the workflow in a department with many interruptions.
  10. Ability and willingness to take on new challenges.

Compensation: Salary range starts at $50,922 – Exempt – Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan; term life, accident and salary continuation insurances, defined benefit pension plan, plus fringe benefits; participation in unemployment and worker’s compensation and social security.
