Position description

The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is looking for a team player interested in developing office skills and professional experience in a nonprofit, policy-research setting. The Development Intern will be exposed to various aspects of institutional development, such as prospect research, a database audit, events, the annual campaign, and more. This opportunity allows for the individual to develop skills in fundraising, event planning, and administrative support through on-the-job experience.

This is a paid, part-time (20 hours per week), temporary (3-6-month) internship located in NBR's Seattle, WA office. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, passionate, hardworking, and have the ability to multitask. This position is available to start in December. The Intern will be supervised by the Director of Board and Corporate Relations. This internship position would be ideal for a candidate seeking to apply and expand his/her skills and build a portfolio in nonprofit fundraising to advance career opportunities.

The Intern will work on the following:

·        Donor Cultivation: Support donor cultivation and stewardship activities by identifying and researching prospective new donors or funding opportunities; reaching out to schedule in-person meetings and introductory phone calls; and creating new value to current donors.

·        Database Administration: Support an audit of NBR’s donor database to review records and verify for accuracy; maintain the donor database by adding new contacts and updating donor contact information, such as mailing addresses and email addresses; record and track supporter gifts, relationships, and key strategies.

·        Prospect Research: Assist in researching partnerships and potential corporate sponsors; like-minded organizational funding; donor prospects, including online research, contact information searches, and collection of information from other organizations.

·        Events: Support event planning, execution, and follow-up by assisting with invitations, participant tracking, travel and accommodation, venue arrangements, on-site support, etc.

·        Administration: Maintain calendars, deadlines, and internal database systems for all donors and organizational funders to secure and renew funds; maintain tracking report and research on events, conferences and other networking sources.

·        Board Meeting Support: Assist with board meeting logistics, participant tracking, the creation of invitations, and board books.

·        Annual Campaign: Support the annual campaign by creating a mailing list, annual campaign materials, and tracking responses.

·        Phone and General Office Support: Answer incoming calls to the organization and provide general office support as needed.

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate holding a degree in Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy, Nonprofit Leadership, Marketing, Communications, or Business and an interest in Asia and foreign Policy preferred.
  • The ideal candidate must be self-directed and results-driven, detail-oriented, and organized. S/he must possess strong problem-solving skills and good judgement, customer service skills, and an interest in relationship building.
  • Some in-office experience with the responsibilities listed above preferred.
