DOC is responsible for the overarching goal of UNICEF's Global Communication and Public Advocacy Strategy to put the rights and well-being of the most disadvantaged children at the heart of social, political and economic agendas. 

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF Division of Communication is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual to serve as a Communications Intern for our Advocacy Team.

The individual must be passionate about digital communications and social media, and be an effective story teller and communicator. H/She will support the education team in the Advocacy unit to develop content on a range of education-related issues for social media platforms.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you…

  • Must be currently enrolled in (or have graduated within the past 2 years) from an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D degree program, preferably in Communications, Journalism, International Relations or relevant field. A first University Degree combined with 1-2 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and visual) with an ability to create a variety of engaging content (tweets/social media cards/GIFs/visual shorts).
  • Experience in using digital media and graphic design tools. Good design skills are a plus.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work independently, and be able engage with other social media teams within UNICEF.
  • Knowledge of international development, humanitarianism and the UN system is a plus.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and an ability to review/use analytic data is a plus.
  • Full knowledge of Microsoft systems, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Knowledge of current trends in online communication is an advantage.
  • Passionate about using social media tools for effective communication and public engagement. Strong experience with social media engagement, particularly Twitter, and promoting content for effective public engagement. Experience with executing social media campaigns a plus.

Personal Requirements

The intern will be required to work for an estimated 3 times/week in the months of Feb-April 2019, although there may be occasions when the number of days will increase.  Additional requirements:

  • The intern will be required to use his/her personal laptop.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and an energetic team.
  • Self-Motivated and able to work independently.
  • Organized, efficient, and able to multitask.
  • Articulate with good presence.

A small stipend will be available. However, UNICEF will not pay for any costs related to travel to the duty station, insurance, accommodation or living expenses related to this assignment.
