Hivos is an international organization that seeks new solutions to persistent global issues. With smart projects in the right places, we oppose discrimination, inequality, abuse of power and the unsustainable use of our planet’s resources. Counterbalance alone, however, is not enough. Our primary focus is achieving structural change. This is why we cooperate with innovative businesses, citizens and their organizations. We share a dream with them of sustainable economies and inclusive societies.
Due to an expected growth in our food portfolio, we are looking for a Program Development Manager Sustainable food. This is a great opportunity for an experienced high potential candidate with a fresh outlook, who wants to make a next step in his or her career.
A growing world population, combined with rising income levels, and marked by the effects of climate change, poses enormous challenges for our global food system. The world is producing more food than ever before, yet the current food system is seriously flawed. Over 800 million people worldwide are food-insecure. In addition, two billion are afflicted by malnutrition and close to two billion people worldwide are overweight or obese. Food production continues to erode ecosystems and crop diversity, threatening future food security, and is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and loss of biodiversity.
Hivos aims to accelerate the shift towards sustainable food systems. We do so by supporting frontrunners – ranging from citizens, local communities, cooperatives and small and medium-sized enterprises who’ve found innovative ways to enhance the sustainable production and consumption of food, and the many linkages between the two. Not only do their efforts show that changing the way we produce, distribute, and consume food is possible, but they also serve as an inspiration for others. Moreover, we facilitate multi-stakeholder initiatives, in particular, geographic areas (city-region food systems and landscapes) to transform degraded landscapes into productive ones, or that reshape urban food systems. And finally, together with citizens, their organizations, and other stakeholders, we advocate for a worldwide transition towards a sustainable food system through the development of a menu of policy options that facilitate access to sustainable food and scale successful solutions.
You will be part of the Hivos Sustainable Food team, and collaborate closely with the Sustainable Food colleagues at Global Office, Program Development Managers Sustainable Food in our regional hubs, and the senior Program Development Manager Sustainable Food.
As Program Development Manager Sustainable Food, you are responsible for expanding the Hivos Sustainable Food portfolio by coordinating program development, marketing and positioning, and resource mobilization (“fundraising”). Together with colleagues and partners, you identify and facilitate opportunities and ideas for innovative projects, and transform such opportunities and ideas into concrete proposals which are considered to represent attractive social investment opportunities for donors. You actively scan the donor market and develop and manage effective relationships with strategic partners and donors. And finally you initiate, facilitate, and manage acquisition processes in close collaboration with Sustainable Food colleagues at Global Office, Program Development Managers in our regional offices, Financial Officers and our Tender Support and Compliance team to ensure cohesive team work and strong proposals.
