Position description

Global Witness is recruiting a Communications Assistant to build our presence in Brussels and help campaigners to use powerful, persuasive communications to achieve our campaigns goals and influence key targets in the EU.

About Global Witness

When someone is murdered defending their home because big business wants their land this is corruption. When people struggle for shelter while empty mansions are used to launder money – this is corruption. When a child breathes polluted air because coal companies and politicians put profits before people – this is corruption.

Our mission is to campaign to end this and we do this by carrying out hard-hitting investigations, exposing the facts, and pushing to change the system. We are independent, not for profit, and we work with partners around the world in our fight for justice.

About the role

Based in our Brussels office you’ll be working in a busy and highly successful EU Advocacy team and Communications team, supporting Global Witness to develop its presence and profile in Brussels.

You’ll build strong media partnerships with EU and member state media, sharing the information about how we are represented in the media and online across the organisation. You’ll be able to create visuals that bring stories alive, as well as working behind the scenes to monitor, analyse and evaluate our communication output.

This role is a 6 month fixed term contract. The salary for this role will be circa €1600 per month.

About you

You’ll have a strong interest in pursuing a career in the EU with a focus on human rights, advocacy, or international development.

Naturally, you’ll have a passion for driving change and a real desire to learn. Your experience, understanding and interest in EU policy making and communications– and how to achieve change in the EU’s capital through news will be the basis for building your learning. You’ll use your experience of managing a blog or social media account, learning how to use these in an organisation.

You’ll be reporting to the Head of EU Advocacy who’ll regularly review how you’re getting on and provide opportunities to maximise your learning and experience with us.

Working for us

Global Witness has a talented team of people worldwide with offices in London, Washington DC and Brussels. We aspire to be a diverse and inclusive place to work, where difference is respected and celebrated. We know that a diverse and inclusive workplace is an asset to any organization and that different views and experiences improve the way we work.

Our benefits are competitive. We offer 23 days annual leave (exc. Belgian holidays), healthcare insurance and flexible and agile working arrangements.
