Position description

Missing Children Europe is looking to recruit a versatile and dynamic Project Officer with a true passion for children’s rights, to coordinate activities and advocate for policy change in the field of missing children, in particular related to runaways and the 116 000 hotline network.

Missing Children Europe represents 31 NGOs in 26 European countries active in combatting the disappearance and sexual exploitation of children. We provide the link between research, policies and organisations on the ground, to protect children from any kind of violence, abuse or neglect that is caused by, or results from them going missing.


The project officer will support the Secretary General and work in close cooperation with other project officers in coordinating activities in the field of missing children, implementing the EU funded RADAR project (March 2020-February 2022) on runaways, coordinating our activities related to the 116000 hotlines, including research, advocacy, and supporting fundraising for new projects.

  • Initiate and coordinate the 2 year EU Funded RADAR project (Running Away: Drivers, Awareness, Responses). Running away is commonly characterized as a child’s problem behaviour, which leads to underreporting. RADAR aims to change perception and demonstrate how running away is an indicator of underlying adverse childhood experiences, and a risk factor for further negative experiences. The project coordinator works with researchers, practitioners and experts by experience, including children, to facilitate, among others:
    • research to better understand the drivers of running away;
    • the collection good practices and a mapping of existing expertise;
    • awareness raising and advocacy on the topic of runaways;
    • the development of 4 trainings and an online course on prevention and responses.
  • Run our ongoing work with the 116000 missing children hotlines, including the annual data collection, our hotline CRM which we offer to support our hotlines, our hotline accreditation activities, advocacy for the hotlines at EU level and support to advocacy for hotline funding at national level;
  • Monitor European developments in the field of missing children, with a particular focus on children running away from home or from care institutions;
  • Represent the 116 000 network vis-à-vis the European institutions and other key stakeholders.


  • University degree in a relevant field (education, psychology, sociology, political science, law, EU or international affairs, or another related field);
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in project management;
  • Excellent understanding of children’s rights, background in child protection issues an asset;
  • Excellent command of English, French an asset;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Experience in research;
  • Comfortable working in cooperation with experience experts and children;
  • Understanding of the NGO sector/EU umbrella organisations;
  • Experience in working with the European Commission and other EU institutions;
  • A good understanding of EC funding programmes;
  • Sensitive, diplomatic, and with a good sense of humour;
  • Ability to work with people from different professional and cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to work well with others in a small team;
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently as well as stress resistant.
