Position description

The School of Communication and Media at Kennesaw State University invites applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure-track Senior Lecturer of Journalism/ Executive Director of the Center for Sustainable Journalism to begin July 2020. The executive director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Center, ensuring that the Center maintains its focus on Journalism sustainability, and ensuring the editorial and business sides function smoothly. The executive director will guide the overall editorial strategy and reporting projects, maintain and grow relationships with other publications and news organizations, interface with current and potential funders, collaborate with the School of Communication & Media, and lead the organization to meet new fundraising and editorial goals. These goals will be set in collaboration with the Center leadership, Director of the School of Communication & Media, and the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The executive director reports to the Director of the School of Communication & Media.
The CSJ is the publisher of the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange and Youth Today. This is a faculty position that oversees CSJ internships and is assigned occasional School teaching assignments (a minimum of one course a year), including guest lecturing and speaking at the annual Communication Colloquium.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

A master’s degree or its foreign equivalent in Journalism, Communication or related discipline, or equivalent journalism experience at a national/management level, is required. Candidate must have at least five years of professional experience as a journalist with major non-profit or for-profit news organizations. Experience teaching at the university level is also required. The successful candidate should demonstrate a successful history or capacity of fundraising with regional and national foundations, as well as individual donors. This includes experience in identifying potential funders, writing successful proposals and administering them in accordance with funder requirements.
