The ideal candidate will enjoy working on a range of subjects and be capable of working in storyforms new and old. In addition to being a strong, careful editor of substance and style, you will be a quick and fluent writer and have the technical agility to master several publishing systems.

Duties will include:

  • Coordinating on a day-to-day basis closely with reporters and editors on desks across the newsroom who are contributing to projects, including editing contributions from journalists on those desks

  • Participating in reviews of data and test results to inform future editorial strategy

  • Prototyping new story forms for tests with readers

  • Coordinating visuals, working with illustrators, photo editors and photographers

  • Curating evergreen content

Requirements include:

  • Five years experience working in a news media organization

  • Excellent reporting, writing or editing skills, as well as strong news judgment

  • Understanding of mobile and digital trends, and a strong sense of The Times’s competitive landscape

  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, how product development works in terms of prototyping and beta-testing to create new experiences and using data to make decisions

  • Willingness to occasionally work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the news cycle

  • Excellent communication skills

Internal and external candidates are welcome to apply for this position. External candidates who are finalists for the position will complete a Times editing test and an assessment of digital presentation skills.
