Position description

Reuters is looking for a senior video journalist and team leader to join our exciting, fast-paced Middle East hub in Cairo. You will be responsible for driving of breaking and planned news coverage in Egypt. You will help deliver news in Egypt to more than 1,000 broadcasters and hundreds of digital outlets around the world. You will have outstanding news judgement and a proven track record of leading teams both in the field and on the desk. This is a full-time role that demands flexibility to work long hours and some weekends and will report to the Chief Producer, Middle East.

As our trusted Senior Producer you will:

  • Manage the Egypt video news gathering team that coordinates and delivers edited and live content from across Egypt and the MENA region at speed
  • Be able to work under pressure
  • Be able to handle breaking news but also have experience pitching stories that go beyond the headlines
  • Be responsible for the output, ensuring our scripts are accurate and impartial
  • Ensure our team is positioned to deliver high-quality speed to all Reuters’ customers
  • Have a keen eye for visual storytelling and the ability to edit footage within tight deadlines
  • Work in partnership with Text and Pictures counterparts to help create a truly unified newsgathering team
  • Work as part of a multimedia team that covers events, starting from the planning phase through to field work and delivery
  • Be customer focused and able to tailor content for Reuters digital and broadcast clients
  • Have the confidence and decision-making skills needed to deputise for the Senior Producer, North Africa

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience in professional journalism in a broadcast, digital newsroom or agency environment
  • Excellent news judgement and a deep understanding of Egypt and the MENA region. Willingness to get involved in sports coverage is a must.
  • A passion for news and how clients use it
  • Strong video editing and script writing skills
  • Solid planning and organizational skills
  • The ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • The ability to lead and mentor visuals teams and work in a hostile environment
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A track record of being a team player
  • A clear understanding of the news video needs of major broadcaster and digital clients
  • A willingness to travel on assignment at a short notice, including to hostile environments
  • Excellent English – written and oral
  • Excellent Arabic – written and oral (fluency in any major global language an advantage)
