IRI is seeking to recruit an Assistant Program Officer for its Regional Office in Brussels, Belgium. The Assistant Program Officer (APO) is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of various Europe regional programs, including the Beacon Project. The APO monitors and reports on political developments in the region and in specific countries. S/he assists program staff in the field and headquarters with designing and implementing strategies for IRI programs. S/he also helps to conduct programs such as training seminars, conferences and media monitoring in the relevant countries where the programs are operating, including the Baltics, Western Balkans, and Visegrad Four (V4). The APO is responsible for tracking program budgets to ensure that expenditures remain within budget allocations, reporting requirements are met and activities comply with all applicable USG and other donor regulations. 


Position Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate/graduate degree in political/social science, international relations or related field and 2-3 years political or related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Fluent level of English language skills – both verbal and written – is required – knowledge of another language spoken in the Baltics, Western Balkans, and V4 is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of politics, economics, history and culture of Central and Eastern Europe and South Eastern Europe is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-discipline and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to coordinate and lead the efforts of other professionals to effectively meet program goals.
  • Ability to manage diverse activities and to meet deadlines required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis also required.

 Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assists the IRI Brussels field team with monitoring, reporting and analyzing political and economic developments especially as they relate to IRI objectives and programs.
  • Organizes conferences related to IRI’s regional grants as assigned.
  • Assists in preparing grant proposals, budgets, quarterly reports and program evaluations and analyses.
  • Participates in the drafting of designated semi-annual, quarterly, and final reports.
  • Assists with managing and monitoring program budgets and financial reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
