The ICT Senior Officer (Geospatial Information Systems Officer) will carry out his/her tasks within SGITT Client Solutions Delivery (CSD) Section which provides comprehensive corporate field technology solutions and support services to support United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC), field missions, UN agencies and partners.
The ICT Senior Officer (Geospatial Information Systems Officer) will work on a flagship programme called Unite Aware which aims to standardize the approach to situational awareness for field operations and to equip field and HQ leadership with a common operational picture on which to make decisions.
Under the overall supervision of UNOPS OICT Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent will work embedded in the Unite Aware team and under the oversight of the Chief CSD or a designated officer and will be responsible for translating business requirements into data architecture and development deliverables and artifacts.
This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.
Under the oversight of the Chief CSD and the general supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, or their respective delegated officers, the ICT Senior Officer (Geospatial Information Systems Officer) will be responsible for the following duties in support of Unite Aware Maps, other Unite Aware applications or GIS services needed in Unite Aware, designated below as the system or systems indifferently:
Participate in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications.
Design, development and transition of the Unite Aware Maps solution as well as related geospatial products and services in Unite Aware.
Provide technical assistance in the areas of UN GeoPortal and for Unite Aware Maps operations and administration.
Assist in the design, development and installation of information systems in support of Unite Aware
Undertake analysis of well-defined modules within the system, develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may design, implement systems as needed.
Undertake rigorous testing and proving of applications software.
Maintain assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system's applications, analyzing and implementing systems changes/upgrades etc.
Ensure data security and integrity.
Prepare, update and maintain system's documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.
Assist in procurement, including conducting needs assessment and benchmarks, preparing technical specifications and evaluation criteria.
Assist in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.
Draft training materials and conduct training sessions and demonstration of systems for users.
Participate with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology.
Provide guidance to new/junior staff as required.
Liaise and establish adequate communications channels with the necessary units within the UNGSC and field missions to support optimal operations for applications and services
Provide support and assistance in responding to requests from field missions in deploying/configuring systems so as to conform to the standards.
Provide support to security incident response and management activities.
Provide support in the planning, implementing, operating and maintaining of security controls;
Provide support to draft documentation including, technical documentation, configuration and service operation manuals, project documents, presentation, and reports.
Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.
Impact of Results
The result of work of the ICT Senior Officer (Geospatial Information Systems Officer) impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the programme as well as the performance of the services implemented for OICT and UNGSC clients. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.
