Position description

The incumbent serves as an International Multimedia Journalist for the VOA Lao Service, with responsibility for conceiving, planning, researching, writing, and broadcasting audio/video scripts of a routine nature and for providing Internet content for web sites. As related to certain duties and where specific duties require it, fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English and the language used for the target audience is required. It also requires abilities in electronic journalism such as writing, editing, interviewing, reporting, and broadcasting stories for radio and television and preparing material for web sites. The incumbent of this position performs duties related to the National Security of the United States. Such duties include the creation, production, and/or editing of information which is broadcast to mission critical target areas as part of U.S. public diplomacy and foreign relations.


RESPONSIBILITY: - Presented all types of material including newscasts and scripts for radio, television and/or Web broadcasts and presentations. Assisted the producer or applicable supervisor in tasks as directed. - Assisted in preparing specific program elements for broadcasts and recommended techniques for conveying information and suggested ideas for stories and updates. - Performed straight translation of simple or routine news and information sources. - Initiated and arranged interviews for others and conducted pre-recorded interviews using pre-developed questions for own segments - Under supervision, performs all other similar/related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.


QUALIFICATION: - Must be fluent in Lao and English - 2+ years of journalist, radio or TV - Deep knowledge about Laos and regional issues.
