Position description

Transport & Environment (T&E) is Europe's leading clean transport campaign group. We combine the power of robust evidence and a deep understanding of the transport sector with compelling communications and impactful advocacy. Created in 1990, we have shaped some of Europe’s most important environmental laws regulating the emissions of cars, trucks, ships and planes, and we play a major role in shaping transport policy throughout the continent. Our people work across Europe: our staff in Brussels, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Madrid and London collaborate with our 60 member and supporter groups to achieve our mission.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our aviation team, focused on supporting the team in its work to accelerate the transition towards zero emission aviation in Europe. The position requires a person with knowledge of EU policy-making, interest in climate policies, strong organisation and writing and the ability to work effectively in a team and meet challenging deadlines.

We offer the chance to help shape policies with huge implications for the future of the aviation industry and the environment – in Europe and across the globe.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting major policy campaigns of the aviation team, including pricing, alternative fuels and low carbon alternatives and working closely with T&E’s trends & analysis and communications teams;
  • Drafting policy papers, preparing presentations, organising and participating in meetings with policy & wider stakeholders, assisting in organisation of policy workshops and other key campaign milestones;
  • Building and maintaining good contact with policy-makers, researchers and T&E networks working on the ground across Europe;
  • Coordinating and liaising with T&E national network and members across Europe on aviation campaigns;
  • Commissioning and delivering impactful research tailored to the needs of the aviation campaign;
  • Supporting the team in delivering on major projects, including reporting and project management responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Two to five years of relevant experience in either the aviation sector, EU advocacy or governance. In exceptional cases we can consider the candidacy with shorter work experience;
  • The ability to absorb and understand technical, economic and legal language, to independently develop new technical, economic or legal arguments and evidence and use them to convince key stakeholders;
  • A solid grasp of the EU political system and the role of the EP and member states in EU decision making;
  • Strong interpersonal, as well as good communication and presentation skills;
  • The ability to understand and communicate complex issues clearly and with impact;
  • A positive, can-do attitude with high work autonomy levels.

The position will be primarily based in Brussels but would involve frequent travel to key European capitals. The working language is English (which is essential), while fluency in other languages is desirable.

T&E will offer you a competitive salary in line with your experience and expertise; extensive benefits and exceptional flexibility.

Equally importantly, if you join T&E you’ll have the opportunity to devote your professional energy and creativity to the resolution of one of mankind’s greatest challenges.
