Position description

UN Women China office is seeking to recruit a short-term specialist for the above duration, whose duties are as articulated below. Under the guidance and supervision of the Gender and Climate Change programme manager of UN Women China, the Gender and Climate Change consultant provides high quality and strategic technical support to identify priority areas, undertake research and consultation, and develop UN Women programme document to scale-up current project.

The Specialist promotes a client-oriented approach consistent with UN Women rules and regulations. The Specialist works in close collaboration with the Gender and Climate Change Programme Team and relevant parties to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Under the overall guidance of Gender and Climate Change Programme Officer of UN Women China, the Specialist is responsible for the following:

  • Organize online consultation meetings with relevant stakeholders to gather inputs and relevance for climate smart and environmentally friendly WEE programming for UN Women China office;
  • Undertake comprehensive literature review for the development of the project documents;
  • Developing comprehensive project proposals including Theory of Change, Results and Monitoring Frameworks, Budget, etc. in line with UN Women standards and practice;

Required Skills and Experience

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A Master degree in the field of international development, gender studies, agriculture, environment and climate related areas with at least 7 years of experience in gender equality and other development programming, preferably in the Asia-Pacific region. Or Bachelor's degree in those fields with 9 years of the above-mentioned work experience;
  • Demonstrated abilities and track record writing high quality English-language reports and programme documents for fund raising;
  • Excellent understanding of and experience with gender-sensitive and results-based management, results-framework development, monitoring and reporting;
  • Understanding of international development, resource mobilization, and the UN context is desirable, preferably with UN Women;
  • Able to work independently and under strict deadlines is necessary;
  • Must be capable of effectively using MS Word and Excel;
  • Proficiency in English.
