Position description

Newsweek is looking for a dynamic, ambitious Deputy Opinion Editor who will have power to solicit, edit, and publish op-ed pieces. This role will report to the Opinion Editor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Opinion Editor to shape strategy for the opinion section

  • Help provide the U.S. edition of Newsweek with a distinctive voice

  • Recruit and help manage a global group of columnists 

  • Edit columns covering U.S. and world news and politics

  • Demonstrate an instinctive feel for social media 

  • Model strong journalistic ethics

Qualifications

  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience editing columns for a well known publication

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. news and media

  • Excellent attention to detail, strong communication and organisational skills, and a steadfast adherence to deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of SEO and social media

  • Ability to balance a creative and analytical approach to the role

  • Google and Microsoft Office Suite skills
