Position description

You’ll manage and oversee production of news and feature content for our nightly NewsHour broadcast as well as special programming on PBS.  As part of senior leadership team, you’ll work closely with the executive producer and other senior leaders on a wide variety of existing projects and developing new ones. One of your key responsibilities is driving projects from conception to distribution, including primetime specials and series, and coordinating for optimal multi-platform experiences of these projects.  You’ll also work closely with General Manager on funding priorities around these projects


You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships. Your new perspective will bring fresh ideas to and management meetings.  You’ll learn and understand current initiatives and how you can continue moving them forward.


• Within your first year, manage multiple special projects, for nightly broadcast and/or special programming, from conception to completion. You’ll help to secure funding for these projects and identify how to make them successful on multiple platforms.

• You’ll work with other senior leaders in developing staff at all levels through daily interactions and producing the broadcast and multimedia special projects.

• You will participate in editorial planning and demonstrate your insight and creativity to motivate content development and ideas for improved workflow and communications in the newsroom. 

• You will represent the NewsHour externally to partners, stakeholders and sources with utmost professionalism and commitment to journalistic standards.


• Demonstrated knowledge in national and international news production management.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact with a wide variety of people using diplomacy, tact, and discretion.

• Exceptional creative, verbal, and writing skills.

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity priorities.

• Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, or related field; minim 10 years of progressively responsible experience with a national level new broadcasting and/or digital platform; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Supervisory experience is preferred.
