Position description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATEAbdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to join the Digital Identification and Finance Initiative [DIGIFI] team. Will work under the supervision of Professor Tavneet Suri (MIT), DigiFI's co-chair and J PAL Africa's scientific director, and DigiFI's director, Nidhi Parekh as well as in collaboration with the DigiFI staff. Responsibilities include developing, designing, and implementing new studies on topics laid out in the DigiFI framing paper and in line with DigiFI's research, policy, and country priorities; providing technical assistance, particularly on monitoring systems set up with partners; mentoring and providing technical assistance to African scholars and support the team on creating a pipeline and funding African scholars; and working with DigiFI's director and chair to achieve DigiFI's research and policy agenda. Other duties may include participation in efforts to increase collaboration with researchers based in priority countries, including training local researchers involved in the initiative, contributing to literature review and data analysis with initiative staff, and participating in the organization of events and seminars. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a doctoral degree in economics, political science, education, computer science, or related field; experience and a strong background in either implementing RCTs on your own and/or demonstrated research interest in one or several of the subject areas noted above; and proficiency with Stata or R. 

PREFERRED: Python, C, MATLAB, or other programming skills.
