Located at the Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center, the Environment and Natural Resources Program (ENRP) and the Science, Technology, and Public Policy (STPP) Program work closely together on a range of research projects on energy and climate change policy, including the Arctic Initiative, and projects on China, India, and the U.S.

STPP's broad goal is to develop and promote public policies that advance the application of science and technology to improvement of the human condition. ENRP's mandate is to conduct policy-relevant research at the regional, national, international, and global level, and through its outreach initiatives to make its products available to decision-makers, scholars, and interested citizens. The Belfer Center has a dual mission: (1) to provide leadership in advancing policy-relevant knowledge about the most important challenges of international security and other critical issues where science, technology, environmental policy, and international affairs intersect; and (2) to prepare future generations of leaders for these arenas.

ENRP/STPP is seeking a Communications and Outreach Coordinator to support a wide range of projects across both research programs. Reporting to ENRP Associate Director, and working closely with with STPP and ENRP staff and faculty, the position will be responsible for implementing a cohesive communication and outreach strategy, coordinating events, and supporting research projects.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

Communications coordination (web, social media, publications): Responsible for the full communications portfolio for ENRP and STPP, including the Arctic Initiative. Updates and maintains programs' websites and manages programs' social media accounts. Works in cooperation with the Belfer Center's communications department on publications, email announcements, and multi-media production. 

Event coordination: Coordinates events for ENRP and STPP, including regular seminar series, occasional events, workshops, and symposia - both virtual and in-person.

Research project coordination: Provide administrative coordination and event organization for the Council on the Responsible use of AI, including regular council meetings and member support.

General program support: Provide additional support for ENRP director and STPP co-directors and affiliated faculty, as necessary. Provide additional support for STPP research projects on China and India, as necessary. Represent STPP/ENRP at center and school-wide meetings.


A minimum of 2 years of relevant outreach and communications experience required. 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred. Experience in communications, web design, and social media strongly desired. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, meeting platforms (Zoom, WebEx), and marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Salesforce). Strong interpersonal skills and experience managing relationships with wide variety of constituents. Ability to work with minimal supervision under tight deadlines. Interest in environmental policy, energy policy, and science and technology a plus. Prior experience working closely with senior faculty and within research, governmental, or large non-profit organizations preferred. Demonstrated experience in prioritizing tasks as needs change, and seeing tasks to completion in a timely manner. Proficient written and spoken English.

Additional Information

This position is a fully benefits eligible term appointment through June 30, 2022, with the possibility of renewal.

Salary Range: $53,275 - $83,995
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
